What is the future of museums and art galleries in the digitised world?
Traditionally, a museum records artefacts of the past that have historical or cultural value and
makes them accessible to the public. Nowadays most museums have found it essential to
adapt their services to meet the changing needs of visitors. They have also become centres of
education where people can collect information and gain first-hand knowledge of how their
ancestors lived and experienced the world around them. Moreover, museums are becoming
places for socializing and resting, for example, by providing an inviting environment where
people with similar interests can come together. Visiting art galleries and museums to see
exhibitions is an essential part of aesthetic education too.
