Overview of the Project
Community Media is meant as amass media which is
initiated and run by the community people.
Community Media can disseminate information on
education, economic development, disaster risk
reduction, safety net services, entertainment and
other relevant indigenous issues that can help to build
up knowledge based society at local level, community
media can create opportunities of different class and
section of people to express their opinion in taking
participatory decision; particularly to ensure their
access to, use and exchange of information. This will
contribute in developing the community as a whole.
In this context, Community Media can be termed as
“voice ofthe voiceless people”
By increasing the scopes and opportunities for the
‘young women in our community media, they will get
freedom to express their choice and opinion in
developing the socio-economic, political and
‘governance situation of the rural people. The project,
entitled: Fellowship for Young Women in Media and
Journalism has aimed to ensure the women access to
mass media. Community Radios are considered as
potential platform for increasing young women access
to information and their enrollment in media sector.
‘The main objective of this project is to develop the
skill of the young women, who will be interested to
work as media professionals in their community. By
being attached to community radio stations in their
locality, they will acquire experience and skill and
highlight the community rights and demands in
mass media as regards to livelihoods and other
socio-economic issues of the local community.
Development Journalism of this kind will contribute
in reducing social discrimination, accelerate women
empowerment and also increase the number of
young women professionals in community media
sector. This project has been planned to create
