Mr.

Bolton Fox

Student Explanation
My classroom expectations are for everyone to be safe, be responsible, and to be
respectful to one another. These three principles will serve as our foundation and additionally we
will develop a social contract together. It is my intention to share this responsibility with the
students so they have save over the rules in their learning environment. It is my expectation that
every student can follow our classroom rules and if not, there is a system in place to handle
address the behavior problem.
Behavior Plan
In my classroom, there is a hierarchical behavior management plan. This means that there
are steps that progressively gain more significance. With that said, it is my expectation that the
students and I can work together and meet our class expectations without reaching the fourth and
final step. Our classroom expectations and rules are clear, as is our behavior management plan.
Below are the four steps:
1. Warning- The students will receive a verbal warning if they do not stop the behavior after
it has already been addressed.
2. Think Sheet- Using the three principles from above, the students will identify the
problem behavior, explain how it does not follow the principles, explain how they can
correct the behavior, and then need a parent and teacher signature. This is an opportunity
for the student and teacher to collaborate and discover what the root of the problem may
be and how they can work together to improve the students learning experience.
Additionally, it is also another way to keep in touch with the parents/guardians since they
may have experienced similar behaviors at home and/or maybe they know something that
can explain the reason for the behavior.
3. Meeting- After the student is given a Think Sheet for the behavior and still exhibits the
bad behavior, they will have to sit down with Mr. Fox either before school, during lunch,
or after school. The intention for this is to allow for a more in-depth conversation
between the student and teacher. After the meeting, the parent will be notified about how
the meeting went and what plan of action they developed.
4. Principal Visit- If the behavior is becoming a chronic issue, meaning it has continued for
an extended period of time and the previous steps did not correct the behavior, then they
will have to see the vice principal.
Classroom Procedures
1. I will greet every student outside of the classroom as they enter the room.
2. Upon entering the room, they will need to view the TV in order to get the information
necessary to start the class successful. On the screen, there will be a slideshow that
welcomes the students into the classroom, the I Can statement, and materials needed.
3. Then the students need to have a seat in their desk.
4. Attendance will be completed.
5. Students will share Good News after attendance every day.
6. The lesson for the day will begin.
7. After the lesson, the students need to pick up after themselves to leave their learning
environment in the same condition as when they entered it.
Teaching Strategies
In my classroom, the students will be challenged and actively participating in their
learning experience. I believe classroom interaction enhances the students learning experience.
It gives the students an opportunity to present their opinions while understanding the importance
of accepting opposing beliefs through discussion and debates. I would put an emphasis on the
analyzing of primary and secondary sources so the students can understand the key issues from
multiple perspectives. Which gives me the ability to incorporate a multitude of methods to assess
the students learning. I prefer the in-class discussions, debates, self-assessments, observations
and essays to assess my students knowledge.
Why is Mr. Foxs classroom set-up this way?!
I do not believe that the teacher should have input over their learning environment and be
responsible for their own behavior. A students bad behavior should not remove the student from
their learning environment, which is why the behavior management plan is structured the way it
is. Students will leave me classroom with the knowledge and skills necessary in order to continue
their post-secondary education or join the workforce.
