Target Audience
The target audience of this professional development are mostly upper grade level elementary
school teachers ranging in grade 3rd - 4th grade.
Learning Needs
After taking a survey of elementary school teachers it is clear there is a need to provide digital
Resources that are class specific and subject specific to their classroom. This is easier at the middle
school and high school level, but our school system is a 1:1 device system and we are encouraged to use
online modules for learning. Many elementary school teachers are used to building their own resources
and are finding it difficult to create digital resources without scanning the ones they have already created.
Goals:
The goal of this staff development is for elementary school teachers to learn 3 different means of
creating resources for their students and their online learning modules.
Group Characteristics
Each teacher has at least one year of teaching. Each teacher uses Canvas for learning modules
with their students.
Starter -
Discuss with teachers how students receive information about the world now.
Discuss the importance of presenting information in the fashion they are accustoms.
Lessons -
Smores - An Infographic site
Good for Facts about a subject
Explain how to login and use the site
Discuss the value of aesthetics.
ThingLink - Interactive links
Good to use in the place of a Diagram.
Creates an interactive design
Create an example for a science class using a Cell or the periodic table
Blendspace -
A site dedicated to helping teachers organize lessons in an easy to navigate Tile Set up

Lesson 3 Create a curated resources with online and personal resources using 3
Blendspace
The instructional sequence is in an order of my own choosing. The lessons are based on very different
web tools and can be done in any order. However, each lesson is presented in the same set up. First the
tool is defined and relevance to the classroom is identified. Next, learners are guided through the steps of
creating the content specific online resource. Finally, learners are given the chance to explore and
develop the final product on their own.
Objective 1:
Initial Presentation - In order to grab the attention of the participants, I will begin by showing a Smore
interactive newsletter I have created in the past. A link will be provided on Dalton Public Schools teacher
Canvas page and they can interact with the newsletter. Then I will ask them take 3 minutes to brainstorm
the subjects they could create turn into a newsletter
Smore Link: https://www.smore.com/edyby
Implementation - After creating a free account, each participant will create an interactive newsletter which
applies to their grade level. Each Newsletter must have the following embedded: A video, an image, book
resource, and a link to an interactive site.
Objective 2
Initial Presentation - ThinkLink is a great way to create interactive diagrams. I will begin by showing an
example of the earths crust
ThingLink: https://www.thinglink.com/scene/819927455597854722
Implementation - Participants will create a free account for educators. Once the account has been created
participants will use an item from the subject from the Smore lesson to create an interactive diagram.
The participant will then find an image which can be legally used for educational purposes and add a
video, links and text to certain areas of the image.
Objective 3
Initial Presentation - Blendspace is a site for lesson planning that can incorporate everything they have
created in the previous lesson. Below is the link to the example I will show to help motivate the use of the
tool in the classroom.
https://www.tes.com/lessons/pZMSqE8Ce2CFRQ/2017-term-1-maths-addition-subtraction
Implementation: After participants create a free account, I will show a short tutorial that explains how easy
it is to incorporate online and personal material to a Blendspace lesson. Participants will create a
blendspace using the Smore and ThingLink from the previous lesson, including other materials they have
found or brought with them. Finally we will discuss how to create a quiz.
