The Reflection Paper

There is no doubt that a writing class is a very important class. As an international

student, this is my first time in the USA, and I felt so excited when I arrived here. However,

communication was a very big problem; it was very hard for me. Like, I did not know how to

talk with another person. So I think the research paper writing class is very necessary and

important for me because Chinese culture is different from American culture. After I learned

writing, it helped me to setup the paper, and is helpful to my grammar, speaking and reading as

well.

To begin with, I am good at setting up the paper. It is important to know how to setup the

paper. Following that, the professor usually advised us to go to writing center first and then she

will help us to check some detail mistakes. I think this is very helpful to me and it made me to be

a strong writer. A place I want to improve is that I can not think about the main idea of the paper

in limited time. The professor gave us in class writing with in limited time to write a paper. This

made us think about the idea in a short amount of time. In my opinion, limited time writing is the

best way to enhance our thinking.

I think learning how to use APA style is the part of the writing class I enjoyed the most.

First, APA can also help me in major classes because we might have many major classes that

require a research paper. So, APA is very necessary in the future since it developed my writing

skill quickly. The biggest challenge in this class is my careless; I always forgot some details and I

have made so many poor mistakes. Sometimes I can not organize clearly, but after I went to

writing center and the professor checked my paper, I fixed it and made a prefect sentence. I am

sure I used many examples to explain my idea and I want my reader to understand my main

point.

For the informative paper and argumentative paper, I know that the differences between

these two papers. For example, informative paper should not include personal idea and opinion,

only information. However, argumentative paper should include our personal idea or other

peoples idea. I follow the instructions for my assignments. After I finished my homework I

checked it every time in order to make sure I finished all the instructions.

For my sources, I made sure that they are effective every time. I always try to find

sources in some authoritative website in order to make sure that my sources are right. Therefore,

I think that maybe some of my sources are too old to put in my paper, but most of my sources are

good and authoritative. This class let me know how to writing in the correct way and work in a

group to do a short presentation. Lastly, I learned how to write a research paper in APA. I did not

learn this when I studied in China.

In conclusion, the strong feeling in this class is that American classes are different from

Chinese classes. In Chinese classes, professors just told us how to do APA, but they are not like

American professors who will help us to show the wrong part and tell you how to repair it and

make it so clear. I know it is very hard to read every students paper and understand the main

ideas because we are international students and always made so many mistakes in grammar. We

need to say thank you to our professor for her hard word. In this semester I learned so much,

especially how to write paper in APA and in limited time to finish a whole paper. I think this will

be very useful when I take my major classes. Finally, although this semester only has one month

left, we still need pay attention in every class. Only by doing so can we make sure that we will

get a good score.
