Throughout this project, I have learned many things about how difficult it is to get a job
in the field of 3D Animation. With movies using more and more realistic animation and video
games becoming ever more popular, animators are in high demand. When searching for a person
to contact, I originally had a hard time finding someone who had a good outreach to their
communities. After a while I found Rebecca Perez, an animator for Dreamworks. I found her off
of her blog and found some interviews with her. I found that she had originally progressed in her
field by emailing prominent animators of her time and used their advice to learn their tricks and
secrets to improve herself. She said that in the field of animation, people who have had formal
training have little advantage over those who have been self instructed through tutorials on the
internet and on Autodesk websites. What I found out when researching internships in this field, I
discovered that what companies care about above many other things is how many years of
experience you have. To apply for a job at Blizzard, they require five to seven years as a
minimum for a major position in animation. Working at their internships helps greatly when
applying for a position, but these internships are very hard to earn. Through my research I
discovered that one of the best colleges for animators is right in California, at the California
by learning from great animators I can improve my work in a similar way to Rebecca Perez. She
has shown to me that through practice and dedication you can improve your skills to compete
with other great animators. By taking a 3D Animation course at Casa, I hope that I can get a head
start against other people who would compete for similar jobs that I hopefully can one day apply
for. Currently, I would like to be an environmental animator over a character animator because I
enjoy creating amazing and outlandish environments that cannot exist in the real world. One of
my current projects is to create a forest at night and I am enjoying all the work I put into making
these ideas into objects on 3D Software. Formal instruction from the teachers only take you to a
certain level and a majority of what you learn in these places comes from what you can teach
yourself, and learning from people who are better than you. 3D Animation is a very time
consuming process and by learning tricks you can significantly reduce the hours you spend
working on objects. Another thing that I learned from Rebecca is what an average day for an
animator looks like. She says that an average day starts off by checking on scenes that you left
rendering overnight. (When rendering High Definition objects, rendering the scene takes a lot of
time). She then takes these renders to a supervisor and gets notes about what she has to create for
her next scene. Then she would get free time to have lunch or work on some other projects. What
I admire about a profession in 3D Animation is how independent most of the work is, It is almost
entirely done based off rough sketches that you are given and are simply told to put it into the 3d
universe. Rebecca has taught me a lot about how to improve in this field of work and how much
