2. Features

NOTE:
Starting with this section all items in Bold are specifically new for Release 1.24.20 CI.

2.1. New features in Release 1.24.20 CI

2.1.1. New feature set compared to Release 1.14.3 GA and updates

This subsection provides a short overview of the new features and operational changes in Release
1.24.20 CI compared to Release 1.14.3 GA and its updates.

8-port ISDN BRA pack LPU508 (TCM line coding, Japan) + DCS network synchronization

This new 8-port ISDN BRA application pack with TCM line coding is specifically
designed for use in Japan. The following ISDN BRA services are supported: V5
Switched, Digital Leased Line and V5 Semi-permanent Leased Line services. This pack
needs a specific network synchronization signal, called DCS clock, which provides
also a 400 Hz reference synchronization. This clock signal can be provided to the pack
either via its application pack frontplate connector1 or via the system synchronization,
operating in the new DCS mode, to all LPU508 installed in the mainshelf.

IP subsystem support

The narrow-band system supports the IP subsystem R3.0 in the following areas:
Metallic Line Testing
The full set of subscriber line tests is also supported for the LPZ600 via the inte-
grated test application pack TAP10x, external test head and manual local test
access. In cooperation with the VoIP LPZ600 also a Talk To Subscriber test ses-
sion via VoIP call-in voice path is supported.
Application Pack supervision and alarming
All IP subsystem application packs are supervised and, in case of failure, also
alarmed via the narrow-band system.
1:N LPZ600 Port Protection
The 1:N Port Protection capability is also supported for the LPZ600 VoIP applica-
tion pack. Note that for 1:N port protection a CIU with, at least, the interchangebil-
ity code 2:8 is mandatory.

1. synchronization via frontplate connector not yet available in CI

2-step system software download

This improvement decouples the software download from the software activation point
in time. With the 2-step system software download capability the whole network can be
prepared with new system software without actually activating the new software at
download time. The actual software activation can be performed e.g. at a point in time of
low traffic intensity of a specific network element or nearly simultaneously within the
whole network at the same point in time. This new 2-step download capability still sup-
ports a non-serving affecting software activation with automatic database evolution and
allows even in the prepared phase unrestricted configuration changes.

V5 protocol error logging

The V5 protocol error logging feature improves the maintenance and performance moni-
toring capabilities of the AnyMedia system. It helps to identify incompatibilities in the V5
protocol used between the local exchange an AnyMedia. Every V5 protocol error is
logged to a retrievable log of the system, split into 8 error categories, and identified with
one of 25 error types for easy error classification and detection. For better legibility the
important V5 message parameters are highlighted in the log. Beside that a pure mes-
sage dump of the errored V5 message is provided.

1:N subscriber port protection on LPZ641

The 1:N subscriber port protection allows to minimize the downtime of a single sub-
scriber line. A faulty port of the high-density 64-port POTS pack can be protected by this
feature without the need of an immediate dispatch to replace the pack. Without manual
interaction an existing subscriber line can be switched to a spare LPZ641 port circuitry
within the same mainshelf. This protection switch is possible on the same as well as
between different LPZ641 application packs. Once a protection switch is instructed it is
saved in the non-volatile system database and survives system/pack resets and Remove
& Re-insert maintenance actions until it is released again on demand. Note that for 1:N
port protection a CIU with, at least, the interchangebility code 2:8 is mandatory.

1:N subscriber port protection capable CIU DTP500

New CIU DTP500 versions are introduced. For the 1:N subscriber port protection feature
a CIU with, at least, the interchangebility code 2:8 is mandatory.

COMDAC COM521

This new COMDAC type supports two additional system syncronization modes: Com-
posite Clock and DCS synchronization. The latter is specifically needed for system clock
support of the LPU508 ISDN BRA application pack for Japan.

Downloadable LPZ64x

With this release the LPZ64x POTS application packs support firmware download. Bun-
dled within the system software a new firmware can be automatically supplied to the
LPZ64x application packs. This download capability allows smooth and non-service
affecting upgrades to e.g. introduce new subscriber line co-efficients.

Improved V5 Traffic Statistics

The V5 Traffic Statistics of prior releases had an operating issue related to incorrect
accumulating of certain error counters of subscribers hosted in the Remote Terminal.
This release corrects this issue.

RFU523

If external earth-backed ringing is applied to the sytem the Ringing Filter Unit RFU523 is
needed in order to provide protection against transients on the internal ringing busses.
The protection is necessary if the length of the ringing cable is longer than 3 m
(unshielded) or longer than 10m (shielded). Installed in the cabinet distribution panel it
provides a single external ringing input connector and two output connectors towards
the AnyMedia LAG4300 shelf.

procedure starts as described in the manual

Remarks for modem installation:

The tests were performed with modems of type
MultiTech MT5600 ZDXe V. Data/Fax 90
For the modems special configurations are necessary. Therefore, a direct connection from a PC with
terminal emulation (e.g. HyperTerm) to these modems is needed (this has to be performed only once).
After the connection to a modem is established and working (type at and press return to check this;
the modem should answer with OK), the configuration of the modem can be done.

8. Operating Notes and Issues

8.1. General Notes

This section gives general hints and notes about operation items that are not specific to Release
1.24.20 CI.

In order to avoid misalignment between the AN and the LE in such a way that one side of the
interface goes into the start-up phase while the other side is in another phase different than the
start-up (maybe up and running), the following functionality has been added for V5 interface
according to 1st Edition of the Standard.
In case of the V5 interface goes down due to either a failure reason or under operator demand,
a mechanism (timer of 95 sec) has been implemented to avoid this V5 interface is re-initiated
before the LE is aware of this V5 interface down condition.
In addition to the general feature set to handle Nx 64 kbit/s services, the IO-E1 pack FAC500B
and the HDSL pack LPS504 are capable to handle ISDN-PRA services via V3 interface and
2,048 Mbit/s unstructured services according to ITU G.703 with network timing.
If the narrowband Remote Operations Channel is being used as the management communica-
tions channel for the AnyMedia Line Access Gateway 4300, then the remote IP router must be
configured to use an MTU size of 256. MTU size greater than this will result in the mis-opera-
tion of the AnyMedia Line Access Gateway 4300. In addition routers, which are used for rout-
ing OAM&P information to the AnyMedia Line Access Gateway 4300, shall not sent RIP
(Routing Information Protocol) towards the System.
Place IO_E1 pack (FAC500B) OOS before removing any pack which has provisioned services
on it to avoid call drops.
LPP100B and LPZ100B have the following capabilities:
Minimum loop current at 0 Ohm loop resistance is about 41 mA
The internal resistance is 500 Ohm
AnyMedia supports V5 semipermanent leased line applications via V5 Interface for POTS and
ISDN-BRA subscribers. These applications can be provisioned and used only with the GSI and
not with the NAM. The NAM is not able to connect and synchronize to a system with provi-
sioned V5 semipermanent lease line applications.
In order to avoid NVDS memory overflow with a fully provisioned Narrowband System the use
of re-provisioning variants shall be limited to 10 stand-by variants.
During high call rate processing TL1 commands, which causes a large number of database
transactions, such as:
RTRV commands, reading a large amount of data
Long TL1 scripts
should be avoided, to maintain quality of service (no delayed or failed call attempts).

AnyMedia Line Access Gateway 4300: System Release Description
Release 1.24.20 CI - APPROVED December 23, 2004

To avoid any problems with the system behavior, the OAP or the subshelf shall not be provi-
sioned during a software download for the OAP and/or OCP
To avoid any mismatch in the network element database and a malfunction of the metallic line
test manager, do not move a subshelf (ONU) out of service (OOS) while performing a metallic
subscriber line test within that subshelf.
Plug-in of APs should only be done one by one. Only after an inserted AP has become fully
operational (approx. 1 min after insertion) the next one should be inserted to avoid a decrease
of quality of service (delayed or failed call attempts).
Disconnection of cables carrying live service.
Single Link configuration (Service affecting):
Take V5-Interface out of service before un-plugging the cables
Multi Link configuration
Take the 2 Mbit/s links out of service before un-plugging cables.
Removing and inserting an E1-pack with live service on the interface.
Single Link configuration (Service affecting):
Take V5-Interface out of service before re-moving the E1-pack
Multi Link configuration
Take the 2 Mbit/s links out of service before re-moving an E1-pack

8.2. Operating Issues

The following list identifies operating issues associated with Release 1.24.20 CI and their suggested
workarounds.

1. ISSUE: LPA832/LPA833 Application Packs

Terminal Balance Return Loss (TBRL) of a LPA832/LPA833 port is not fully conform to the
requirement specified by ITU-T Q.552 when measured against a Balance network of (163 Ohm
+ 320 nF || 1031 Ohm)
In general not service affecting. The combination of POTS and ADSL on one interface is
not applicable for very long local loops that might provide issue with echo and stability.
Use other Balance network specified in the country

2. ISSUE: Hook Flash measurement (Consecutive) with TAP10x

Consecutive Hook Flash measurement sometimes does not show result.
Not service affecting.

Release 1.24.20 CI - APPROVED December 23, 2004

Wait at least 5 seconds after the ready beep tone to get reliant measurement results.

3. ISSUE: Flexrate NTU IS and looped cannot recover from Layer 1 failure
If a Flexrate NTU is in IS and looped, and L1 fails (power failure or cable disconnect), then after
L1 is restored the loopback is not restored. Instead, the NTU toggles every few seconds
between OOS and IS. On the physical NTU the line LED flickers off every approx. 3 seconds.
This state can be detected by:
The event "pack not responding to poll" gets created and cleared every approx. 3
seconds.
The system is in the following state:
- lt : IS-TST
- ntu : OOS or IS (it should be in IS-TST instead)
- drop: IS-TST

Workaround:
The error condition can occur for both type of NTU loopbacks, local (NT) and remote (RNT).
The workaround is to operate the other loopback, then the one that was operated previously.
perform the following commands:
OPR-LPBK-ISDN::drop-x-x-x:::NT::;
OPR-LPBK-ISDN::drop-x-x-x:::RNT::;
if both commands pass ok, then the original state was RNT looping, and recovery to that state
was successful.
If the first of the above commands produced the error message "Status, Already Operated
already in loopback, then the original state was NT looping, and the operator needs to enter
OPR-LPBK-ISDN::drop-x-x-x:::RNT::;
OPR-LPBK-ISDN::drop-x-x-x:::NT::;
to get back to the original state (NT looping).

4. ISSUE: SHDSL Feature

Software update of the SHDSL Application pack LPS510 in the ONU might take one hour.
Not service affecting; no workaround needed
Far End statistics for Performance Monitoring according to ITU G.826 is currently not sup-
ported.
Not service affecting; Ignore displayed counter values 0 on GSI

5. ISSUE: Maintenance action on V5.2 Multi-link during SW download

The V5.2 Multi-link interface does not come up on the stand-by COMDAC if one V5 link is in
service state OOS (caused by additional maintenance action).
Workaround: Postpone additional maintenance actions on a V5.2 multi-link application
until SW download is completed.

6. ISSUE: Maintenance action Transparent Loopback on List 1 UTU801 / UTU804

Maintenance action, Transparent Loopback, together with List 1 UTU801 / UTU804 in Point to
Multipoint application mode and disconnection of the HDSL link will cause a digital 1 signal in
the upstream direction after re-connection of the link.
Workaround: Power off/on at the UTU or Re-provision the HDSL via edit OOS and edit
IS
This Issue is solved with List 3 UTU801 / UTU804

7. ISSUE: Maintenance action together with PairGain UTU804 and mixed mode application
a. Maintenance action, disconnect of ITU G.703 interface at NTU, in the two-pair point-to-point
mode will cause clock slip at the co-located V.x/X.x data interface.
Workaround: De-provision the ITU G.703 interface of the NTU before disconnecting the
interface.
b. Maintenance action, disconnect of ITU G.703 interface at NTU(1), in point-to-multipoint mode
will cause interruption of the co-located V.x/X.x data interface. Service on NTU(2) is not
affected.
Workaround: De-provision the ITU G.703 interface of the NTU(1) before disconnecting
the interface.

8. ISSUE: Maintenance action (Loopback) on SHDSL pack LPS510

Simultaneous Loopback on E1 and SHDSL interface may cause misbehaviour of the E1 link.
Workaround: Do loopback one after the other for maintenace reasons
If both loopbacks have to de done simultaneously, release both loopbacks before opera-
tion can be resumed.

9. ISSUE: Misleading status condition on GSI and misleading LED indication on NTU during mainte-
nance action (V3 NT Loopback) with SHDSL pack LPS510 on ADTRAN SHDSL NTU B.00
If a NT loopback is closed via Sa6-Bit-Loop-Request-Pattern in V3 PRA mode and if during this
loopback a additional E1 LOS/LOF happens, the status conditions 'loopback at NT requested'
and 'loopback successfully closed' do not get cleared and LED LLOOP on NTU still indicates
active loopback.

Not service affecting; this can be ignored by the operator as the E1 LOS/LOF is indi-
cated on the IGSI. V3 alarming towards the switch is correct.

10. ISSUE: Maintenance action (V3 NT Loopback) with SHDSL pack LPS510 on VERILIN WANsuite
5650 2.66e SHDSL NTU
If a NT loopback is closed via Sa6-Bit-Loop-Request-Pattern in V3 PRA mode the Sa5-Bit-Pat-
tern gets looped back instead of being set to '0'.
Not service affecting; The switch sets Sa5-Bit to '0' towards the subscriber. During loop-
back this gets looped and will be '0' towards the switch.

11. ISSUE: Misleading LED indication during Maintenance action (Loopback) with SHDSL pack
LPS510 on VERILINK WANsuite 5650 2.66e SHDSL NTU
If a NT loopback is closed the LED RLOOP on NTU gets lit instead of LLOOP.
Not service affecting;
12. ISSUE: The combo application packs LPA832 and LPA833 do not support earth-backed
ringing.
