ABSTRACT

Studies of genders conversation have been recognized that the gender of speakers plays a part
in talking power, conversational control, topic control, and perception of the speakers
communication ability. The main purpose conducting this research is to identify which gender
interrupt more frequently while having conversations and is there any purpose for each gender
to interrupt. While previous research in this area has focused on interruption in the workplace or
the home, this research examines its place in mixed-gender conversation between university
students. Participants in this study were given questionnaires contains 10 questions and 20
respondents were selected among KUPTM KL selected course and six students for interview
session and were recorded and the transcription was later analyzed for general trends of
interruption with relation to each gender. From this study proven that men is the one who
interrupt more while having conversation compared to women. Better consciousness of the
designs of interruption and conversational power between genders will increase the presence of
all speakers in discussion and topic development.
