PST Pre service teacher reflective comments:
Entering an international placement I was aware of the language barrier and limited resources that awaited me. However, learning was not lost in translation and I was able to observe and record the significant growth and progress of the students. I have developed by ability to be well planned, organised and to work well under pressure in unforseen circumstances. Due to the language barrier it was difficult to provide explicit instruction; therefore, causing problems when creating differentiated learning tasks for each student. However, I was able to cater for learning differences and styles through kinaesthetic, visual and auditory activities. I hav been able to create a safe, supportive and open learning environment by responding to students needs and building positive relationships with each student. Working positively in a team teaching situation provided me with the capacity to extend student beyond rote learning and our support for each other was evident in all circumstances. The collection of assessment data throughout thi placement has developed my abilities and confidence in teaching, a I have seen significant student progress, particularly from the students with learning difficulties. Overall, this placement has been very successful, despite there being no curriculum to follow, no behaviour management strategies and a rote learning style prior to our arrival. I have grown both personally and professionally from th experience and have taken on all feedback to continue to develop i the future.
