CHANGING THE WORLD WITH VIDEO PUBLIC


SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS!
COS: 2,3, 7, 11,12
Daily Outcome: Students will draw conclusions about what makes a persuasive
argument by critically analyzing different public service announcements (PSAs).
Before: Login to Google Classroom and answer the question: What is a
persuasive argument? Have you ever made one? If so, provide the example.
During: Teacher will guide students through reviewing public service
announcements at http://www.adcouncil.org/Our-Campaign and class will
discuss:
How did the actors portray the message?
What persuasive techniques were used in the video?
Did the video incorporate any voice-overs?
How did the PSA use text on the screen?

After: Students will try to determine the topic of their Public Service
Announcement and report to teacher.
Homework: Students will search a variety of media sources including
newspapers, magazines, television, and a variety of internet sources for
information on their PSA topic.

in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is valid and the evidence is relevant

Daily Outcome: Students will use question-finding strategy and apply it to a
topic of interest (topic for their PSA).
Before: Q & A-homework assignment. Students will show and tell anything they
found. Also, teacher will distribute handout containing questions that should be
answered during research of PSA topic.
During: Students will continue researching topic for PSA and once determined
will address or complete questions on handout.
After: Roundtable discussion: Problems or difficulties with assignment to date.

Daily Outcome: Students will use question-finding strategy and apply it to a
topic of interest (topic for their PSA).
Before: Students will retrieve handouts from previous days assignment.
WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY? Students will explain to those who were not in
attendance the previous days assignment.
During: Students will continue researching PSA topic and complete questions on
handout.
After: Complete handouts will be presented to teacher for a formal grade.

Thursday COS: 2,3, 7, 11,12
Daily Outcome: Students will practice persuasive writing by creating public
service announcement (PSA) scripts.
Before: Google classroom: What is a thesis?
Teacher will return probing questions handout and discuss with students one on
one.
During: Students will use an online Persuasion map to assist with the planning
of their storyboards for their PSA.
After: Printout Persuasion maps and peer review session

Daily Outcome: Students will practice persuasive writing by creating public


service announcement (PSA) scripts.
Before: Google classroom: What is an outline?
Teacher will return Persuasion Maps with feedback.
During: Students will use an online Persuasion map to assist with the planning
of their storyboards for their PSA. Persuasion maps will be used to complete the
PSA Outline
After: Teacher will provide one on one feedback on PSA Outline Handout
