Veteran coach Larry Neumann begins his 24th season as the head coach *district game

The Bears have awoken from hibernation and are ready to contend for a
playoff spot in the tough 10-4A Division I, which includes powerhouse

Navasota, Silsbee, Cleveland, Huffman and Bridge City. The Bears will HISTORY
be vastly improved and have two of the most talented running backs in
2015: 2-8
the area in juniors JLon Douglas and Chris Winters, who combined to
run for 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns. Senior Beau Bickham returns Last playoff: 2014

The Mighty Mustangs 27th playoff appearance was a special one last
season as the Stangs advanced to the 4A Division II state championship

Harrington receive
preseason buzz
Just days after being named to their first preseason All-America
squad, the duo of seniors Kade Harrington and Bret Treadway
received another preseason honor. Both Harrington and
Treadway earned College Sports Madness Preseason All-America
honors Aug. 8. Harrington received first-team recognition, while
Treadway was a third-team selection.
Harringtons preseason honors are due in large part to his record-
setting season in 2015. The Kingwood native led the nation in
rushing, all-purpose yards and rushing touchdowns. He closed
out the season by becoming the first player in program history Xavier
to be named Southland Player of the Year and was the runner-up Bethany
for the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year Award
FCS Footballs version of the Heisman Trophy.
A huge reason for Harringtons success last season was the
dominance of the LU offensive line, which was anchored by
Treadway. A three-year starter, Treadway garnered first-team
All-Southland honors a year ago to lead one of the nations top
offensive lines. Treadway was an integral part of the Cardinals
offense which finished the season ranked among the nations top
10 in rushing averaging nearly 270 yards per game. In addition
to helping produce one of the nations strongest ground games,
the LU offensive front also led the nation in pass protection. Big
Red surrendered fewer than 0.5 sacks per game in 2015.
The Cardinals also received some respect from the national
pollsters. LU received 28 points in the STATS FCS Preseason top
25 poll, which has it listed under the others receiving votes
category. LU is currently the 18th team listed in the category.
Three of LUs 2016 opponents appear in the preseason poll,
including Sam Houston State at No. 2. The other two opponents
are McNeese (11th) and Coastal Carolina (16th).

COACH SAYS ...
I feel like I am back as my old self after having a double
lung transplant. I tried to coach as much as I could last
season from the press box, but I feel much better and
its great to be side-by-side with these kids. We are all
excited heading into the season. We got beat in the
playoffs last year in the third round by Frankston, who
lost in the state championship game, and we have a
lot of those kids back who started and some who are

system, so we are much further ahead. A few days

of our playbook already installed. This years team 9/30 OPEN
is a lot quicker, stronger and more aggressive. A
lot of our kids can run the 40 in 4.9 or better. Plus 10/7 Groveton (7p)*
Dale we have a bigger senior class, and we expect a lot 10/14 Lovelady (7p)*
5-15, 3rd year of them to be leaders, both on and off the field.

2016 OUTLOOK
*district game
The Pirates will be looking to snap a brief postseason absence of two
years, and it will help that Deweyville has dropped classifications from HISTORY
3A to 2A. Though they dont have to face the likes of Newton in district, 2015: 3-7
they will get plenty of competition in 12-2A Division I in Centerville,
who went to the regional semifinals last season, and Lovelady, who Last playoff: 2013

lost in the state semifinals. The Pirates have to find a replacement for
Perkins SR All-time record: 193-267-5 (.419)
last years all-district quarterback, and they have a good one in senior
Caden Hubbard, who has a very good arm. Hubbard will have two good Ten win seasons: 0
targets to throw to in senior tight end Levi Perkins and senior receiver
Caleb Winkle. Many in town are touting two very good running backs Undefeated regular seasons: 1
in senior Jordan Gary (540 yards, 5 TDs) and junior Jace Atchley. The big District titles: 5
hogs in the trenches are in good hands with senior all-district returners
Hunter Maloy and Sean Patsfield. The defense will also be improved Winless seasons: 1
with six returners including senior defensive end Rodney Richardson.

8-33, 6th year Iola and Evadale as the favorites, but I like our
8-33, overall chances when we line up against Burkeville, Hull- 10/21 @ Hull-Daisetta (7p)*
Daisetta and Colmesneil. Several of those games were very competitive

and we had a chance to win but either had some late, costly turnovers or WR

2016 OUTLOOK

Change is in the air, but a familiar name and face will be the head
football coach at Sabine Pass. Jason Thibodeaux, who has been an HISTORY
assistant the last few years, was promoted to head coach during the first 2015: 0-10
week of practice after Trey Harvey accepted an administrative position
at Bridge City. Thibodeaux was head coach from 2006-10. The Sharks Last playoff: 2011

are in District 12-2A Division II with powerhouses Iola and Evadale, All-time record: 68-213-6 (.241)
Walker SR
along with Burkeville, Colmesneil and Hull-Daisetta. The Sharks were
winless last season at 0-10 but have plenty of talent back, including Ten win seasons: 0
senior quarterback Dominique Wilson and last years leading rusher,
senior DCoven Turner. The receiving corps looks plenty good with all-
District titles: 2
district senior Glenndell Walker, and juniors Braydon Broussard, Jaymus Winless seasons: 6
Jones and Jude Bergeron. Eight starters return on the Shark defense that
needs to improve after allowing 38 points per game. Senior lineman Playoff appearances: 3
Leonard Ifield returns after an all-district junior campaign.

2016 OUTLOOK
The Rebels have made the postseason for 10 straight years, and not only *district game
are they primed to make a run for a ninth district title, but this years team
also has its sights set on a deep run in the Class 2A Division II playoffs. HISTORY
More than 30 lettermen return, including 16 starters, nine of whom are 2015: 6-5
on offense, and most of the starters are all-district players. Leading the
offense again will be junior Tyler Torres, who threw for 1,500 yards and Last playoff: 2015

19 touchdowns. Those numbers may be much higher this year as seniors All-time record: 242-336-10 (.409)
Brady Griffin and Grant Herrington are back, as well as the addition of
Herrington SR
Kolten Mackey. Mackey, a senior, was an all-district receiver for Silsbee Ten win seasons: 2
last year with 1,198 yards and 13 touchdowns and moved to Evadale
in August. The offensive line is intact with seniors Zach Stark, Garrett Undefeated regular seasons: 2
Beard, Kagen Rawls, Josh Conner and Casey Black. The backfield will be District titles: 8
explosive with junior 1,000-yard rusher Coy Williams getting the bulk of
the carries. Many of the offensive starters play on defense, but expect Winless seasons: 2
sophomore Parker Moye, seniors Ty Frasier and Daniel Bean to be leaders.

2016 OUTLOOK
In just his second season as the head coach, Troy Esprit helped guide *district game
the Legacy football team to the TAPPS Division III state semifinals, the
Warriors best season in program history. The offense returns just three HISTORY
starters and replaces an all-state quarterback with junior Holden Reese, 2015: 10-3
who Coach Esprit says is very smart and a hard worker. Four players
are vying for the running back position, and senior Taydren Esprit, son WR Last playoff: 2015 (4 year)
of the head coach, was the best receiver in the district last season.
Esprit SR All-time record: 58-80 (.420)
Hes back after 807 yards and 10 scores. Senior Peter Trahan returns
as starting center, and expect big things this year from junior tackle
Dwight Johnson. Expectations are high on defense, Coach Esprit says,
as the Warriors possess plenty of speed in the secondary with senior District titles: 0
Corion Jones and freshman Korien Burrell. Senior David Raymond is
a returner on the defensive line, and Trahan is back at linebacker. For Winless seasons: 2
the first time, Legacy will play Beaumont Kelly in a football game this
season. Homecoming: Oct. 14 vs. Bay Area Christian

The Al Rabb era brought excitement to the Kelly football program. HISTORY
In just his second season, the Bulldogs snapped a four-year playoff
drought. They will again compete in the four-team TAPPS Division
2015: 4-7
I-3 district along with St. Thomas, who lost in the state semifinals Last playoff: 2015
last season, as well as St. Pius and Tomball Concordia Lutheran. The LB
quarterback battle has been hotly contested with seniors Logan Guillory SR Homecoming: Sept. 30 vs. Hamshire-Fannett
Henke and Connor Henry taking snaps. Juniors Jomard Valsin and
Earl Robertson could get plenty of carries in the backfield, and keep
an eye on senior Parker Meighen, who can be used in multiple roles.
The Bulldog defense could set the tone, especially early in the season.
Four-year letterman Simon Guillory is one of the top linebackers in the
district and will be joined by junior Patrick Clay. Senior Patrick Brown
will lead the secondary at safety.
