BEARS 10-4A DIVISION I

8/26 @ Jasper (7:30p)
9/2 WO-S (7p)
COACH SAYS... 9/9 Hardin-Jefferson (7p)
This team is a lot further along just for the simple 9/16 Orangefield (7p)
QB
fact this is our second year in the offense, which
we installed last spring. There is a good nucleus Bickham SR 9/23 OPEN
because some of these guys have played on varsity 9/30 @ St. Pius (7p)
for the last three seasons, and that makes this
group of seniors very special to me. There are 21 of 10/7 @ Silsbee (7p)*
them, and its exciting to me to see how far along
Crouch 10/14 Bridge City (7p)*
they have come. No doubt this is a tough district,
31-40, 8th year
but I think we have some good scrimmages and a 10/21 @ Huffman (7p)*
31-40, overall
non-district schedule that has four playoff teams
from last year that will help us prepare. If we can keep the skill players 10/28 Cleveland (7p)*
LB
healthy, this team can be pretty good. 11/4 @ Navasota (7p)*
Fontenot SR
2016 OUTLOOK
The Bears have awoken from hibernation and are ready to contend for a
playoff spot in the tough 10-4A Division I, which includes powerhouse

8/26 @ Hamshire-Fannett (7:30p)
9/2 North Forest (7p)
COACH SAYS... 9/9 WO-S (7:30p)
The difference between this years group and RB 9/16 @ Newton (7:30p)
last years is the overall experience factor. These Draper SR
guys have been in the system now for an entire 9/23 OPEN
year, so everything has gone faster and smoother.
It also helps with the confidence factor as we 9/30 OPEN
had success last season, including making the 10/7 Cleveland (7p)*
playoffs. Now we just need to build off that
success and carry it over each week. Our district 10/14 @ LC-M (7p)*
is highly competitive, and new this year will be
DuBois Navasota. Huffman returns a lot of players, as 10/21 Silsbee (7p)*

8/26 Coldspring (7:30p)
9/2 @ Buna (7:30p)
COACH SAYS... 9/9 @ LC-M (7:30p)
I am really excited about this group for several
OL 9/16 Kelly (7:30p)
reasons. One, the players are in the second
year of the system, so now they know what we
Meade SR 9/23 Hardin (7:30p)
expect from them and expect from us. We have 9/30 @ Jasper (7:30p)
a lot of experience back on both sides of the ball.
There are a lot of skill players who can be very 10/7 OPEN
good playmakers when they get the ball, so if 10/14 WO-S (7:30p)*
Sloan we execute correctly, we have a chance to really
2-8, 2nd year score some points. I also like our overall team 10/21 @ Liberty (7:30p)*
2-8, overall
speed on defense. They are pursuing the ball,
10/28 Orangefield (7:30p)*
flying around, and the secondary can really cover some ground. So far, RB
so good. Working hard and prepping for a big season. Nwachuku JR 11/4 @ Hamshire-Fannett (7:30p)*

LUs Treadway,
Harrington receive
preseason buzz
Just days after being named to their first preseason All-America
squad, the duo of seniors Kade Harrington and Bret Treadway
received another preseason honor. Both Harrington and
Treadway earned College Sports Madness Preseason All-America
honors Aug. 8. Harrington received first-team recognition, while
Treadway was a third-team selection.
Harringtons preseason honors are due in large part to his record-
setting season in 2015. The Kingwood native led the nation in
rushing, all-purpose yards and rushing touchdowns. He closed
out the season by becoming the first player in program history Xavier
to be named Southland Player of the Year and was the runner-up Bethany
for the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year Award
FCS Footballs version of the Heisman Trophy.
A huge reason for Harringtons success last season was the
dominance of the LU offensive line, which was anchored by
Treadway. A three-year starter, Treadway garnered first-team
All-Southland honors a year ago to lead one of the nations top
offensive lines. Treadway was an integral part of the Cardinals
offense which finished the season ranked among the nations top
10 in rushing averaging nearly 270 yards per game. In addition
to helping produce one of the nations strongest ground games,
the LU offensive front also led the nation in pass protection. Big
Red surrendered fewer than 0.5 sacks per game in 2015.
The Cardinals also received some respect from the national
pollsters. LU received 28 points in the STATS FCS Preseason top
25 poll, which has it listed under the others receiving votes
category. LU is currently the 18th team listed in the category.
Three of LUs 2016 opponents appear in the preseason poll,
including Sam Houston State at No. 2. The other two opponents
are McNeese (11th) and Coastal Carolina (16th).

SABINE PASS SCHEDULE

SHARKS 12-2A DIVISION II

8/26 Pasadena First Baptist (7p)
9/2 @ Galveston OConnell (7p)
COACH SAYS... 9/9 Acadiana Home School (7p)
The change was made right before we starting
WR 9/15 @ Cypress Christian JV (7p)
practicing, but the good thing is Ive been here,
so I know the kids and they know me. We dont Bergeron JR 9/23 West Hardin (7p)
have a lot of kids out playing football, but the 9/30 OPEN
ones we do are great kids who hustle and want
to work and win. We havent made the playoffs 10/7 @ Burkeville (7p)*
since 2011, and our district is really tough with 10/14 Iola (7p)*
Thibodeaux
8-33, 6th year Iola and Evadale as the favorites, but I like our
8-33, overall chances when we line up against Burkeville, Hull- 10/21 @ Hull-Daisetta (7p)*
Daisetta and Colmesneil. Several of those games were very competitive
10/28 Colmesneil (7p)*
and we had a chance to win but either had some late, costly turnovers or WR
some penalties. We have some talent; we just need to cut down on the Broussard JR 11/4 @ Evadale (7p)*
mistakes, and we can be successful.

2016 OUTLOOK
*district game
Change is in the air, but a familiar name and face will be the head
football coach at Sabine Pass. Jason Thibodeaux, who has been an HISTORY
assistant the last few years, was promoted to head coach during the first 2015: 0-10
week of practice after Trey Harvey accepted an administrative position
at Bridge City. Thibodeaux was head coach from 2006-10. The Sharks Last playoff: 2011
WR
are in District 12-2A Division II with powerhouses Iola and Evadale, All-time record: 68-213-6 (.241)
Walker SR
along with Burkeville, Colmesneil and Hull-Daisetta. The Sharks were
winless last season at 0-10 but have plenty of talent back, including Ten win seasons: 0
senior quarterback Dominique Wilson and last years leading rusher,
senior DCoven Turner. The receiving corps looks plenty good with all-
District titles: 2
district senior Glenndell Walker, and juniors Braydon Broussard, Jaymus Winless seasons: 6
Jones and Jude Bergeron. Eight starters return on the Shark defense that
needs to improve after allowing 38 points per game. Senior lineman Playoff appearances: 3
Leonard Ifield returns after an all-district junior campaign.
Playoff record: 0-3 (.000)
QB
Projected finish: 1-9 Wilson SR Homecoming: Sept. 23 vs. West Hardin

EVADALE SCHEDULE

REBELS 12-2A DIVISION II

8/27 Logos Prep (12p)
9/2 @ Warren (7:30p)
COACH SAYS... 9/9 Deweyville (7:30p)
Area expectations for Evadale football are high
OL 9/16 West Hardin (7:30p)
every year, but I am really excited about this
particular team because we have such a big Beard SR 9/23 Hemphill (7:30p)
senior class. Those guys have been in the program 9/30 OPEN
for a while now, and seeing them come together
and gel in their final season together will be 10/7 Hull-Daisetta (7p)*
Williams special. With that, we have a little more depth
10/14 @ Burkeville (7p)*
82-66, 15th year this year. Our numbers are still a little low being
94-84, overall
in 2A Division II, but if we stay relatively healthy 10/21 Colmesneil (7p)*
throughout the year, this could be a really good football team. Iola won
10/28 @ Iola (7p)*
the district title last season and has a bunch of players back, plus we WR
have to go on the road to play them, but I really like our chances. Griffin SR 11/4 Sabine Pass (7p)*
2016 OUTLOOK
The Rebels have made the postseason for 10 straight years, and not only *district game
are they primed to make a run for a ninth district title, but this years team
also has its sights set on a deep run in the Class 2A Division II playoffs. HISTORY
More than 30 lettermen return, including 16 starters, nine of whom are 2015: 6-5
on offense, and most of the starters are all-district players. Leading the
offense again will be junior Tyler Torres, who threw for 1,500 yards and Last playoff: 2015
WR
19 touchdowns. Those numbers may be much higher this year as seniors All-time record: 242-336-10 (.409)
Brady Griffin and Grant Herrington are back, as well as the addition of
Herrington SR
Kolten Mackey. Mackey, a senior, was an all-district receiver for Silsbee Ten win seasons: 2
last year with 1,198 yards and 13 touchdowns and moved to Evadale
in August. The offensive line is intact with seniors Zach Stark, Garrett Undefeated regular seasons: 2
Beard, Kagen Rawls, Josh Conner and Casey Black. The backfield will be District titles: 8
explosive with junior 1,000-yard rusher Coy Williams getting the bulk of
the carries. Many of the offensive starters play on defense, but expect Winless seasons: 2
sophomore Parker Moye, seniors Ty Frasier and Daniel Bean to be leaders.
Playoff appearances: 17
OL
Projected finish: 9-1 Stark SR Playoff record: 4-17 (.190)

4-6, 2nd year 9/23 Chester (7p)
this team returns just 11 players; most of last years 9/30 @ Clear Lake Christian (7p)

Chase Mott and junior Brendon Sylestine have been competing at

LEGACY CHRISTIAN SCHEDULE

WARRIORS TAPS DIVISION 3-6

8/26 OPEN
9/2 @ Lutheran North (7p)*
COACH SAYS... 9/9 @ Kelly (7p)
We are a lot younger this year and only have 22
DL 9/16 Logos Prep (7p)*
players on the varsity roster, compared to 27 last
season. Playing Kelly in football is the start of
Raymond SR 9/23 @ Cypress Christian (7p)*
something great. Schools in the Golden Triangle 9/30 Pasadena First Baptist (7p)*
all have rivals the community knows about
except for Kelly and Legacy, and it will give both 10/7 @ Magnolia Legacy (7p)*
Esprit schools just that. Kelly has twice as many kids as 10/14 Bay Area Christian (7p)*
14-9, 3rd year we do, but it shouldnt affect the outcome. From
14-9, overall 10/21 @ Northland Christian (7p)*
coaching my oldest (Treylon) two years ago to
coaching my middle son Taydren this year has been a real blessing for
10/28 Tomball Rosehill (7p)*
so many reasons outside of football. They have gotten so much out of QB
attending Legacy. Reese JR 11/4............The Woodlands Christian (7p)*
2016 OUTLOOK
In just his second season as the head coach, Troy Esprit helped guide *district game
the Legacy football team to the TAPPS Division III state semifinals, the
Warriors best season in program history. The offense returns just three HISTORY
starters and replaces an all-state quarterback with junior Holden Reese, 2015: 10-3
who Coach Esprit says is very smart and a hard worker. Four players
are vying for the running back position, and senior Taydren Esprit, son WR Last playoff: 2015 (4 year)
of the head coach, was the best receiver in the district last season.
Esprit SR All-time record: 58-80 (.420)
Hes back after 807 yards and 10 scores. Senior Peter Trahan returns
as starting center, and expect big things this year from junior tackle
Dwight Johnson. Expectations are high on defense, Coach Esprit says,
Playoff appearances: 4
as the Warriors possess plenty of speed in the secondary with senior District titles: 0
Corion Jones and freshman Korien Burrell. Senior David Raymond is
a returner on the defensive line, and Trahan is back at linebacker. For Winless seasons: 2
the first time, Legacy will play Beaumont Kelly in a football game this
season. Homecoming: Oct. 14 vs. Bay Area Christian

Projected finish: 5-5 Trahan SR

KELLY SCHEDULE

BULLDOGS TAPPS DIVISION 1-3

8/26 @ East Chambers (7:30p)
9/2 Kountze (7p)

COACH SAYS... 9/9 Legacy Christian (7p)

These young men showed a lot of character DB 9/16 @ Hardin-Jefferson (7:30p)

and learned how to win, then took it to the Brown SR 9/23 @ Orangefield (7p)
next step last season when we made the
playoffs. Its a great group of kids that have 9/30 Hamshire-Fannett (7p)
been out here practicing and working hard,
10/7 @ St. John XXIII (7p)
as are the coaches, to make sure this football
team can be the best Kelly football team 10/14 OPEN
Rabb Monday through Friday. The district is tough,
8-13, 3rd year
but we cant worry about what the other
10/21 St. Thomas (7p)*
33-71, overall
teams are doing. We can only control what 10/28 St. Pius (7p)*
we are doing and continue to work in the right direction. We have to LB
replace a few players in some skill spots, but Ive appreciated the effort Clay JR 11/4 @ Tomball Concordia (7p)*
these guys have put forth.

2016 OUTLOOK *district game

The Al Rabb era brought excitement to the Kelly football program. HISTORY
In just his second season, the Bulldogs snapped a four-year playoff
drought. They will again compete in the four-team TAPPS Division
2015: 4-7
I-3 district along with St. Thomas, who lost in the state semifinals Last playoff: 2015
last season, as well as St. Pius and Tomball Concordia Lutheran. The LB
quarterback battle has been hotly contested with seniors Logan Guillory SR Homecoming: Sept. 30 vs. Hamshire-Fannett
Henke and Connor Henry taking snaps. Juniors Jomard Valsin and
Earl Robertson could get plenty of carries in the backfield, and keep
an eye on senior Parker Meighen, who can be used in multiple roles.
The Bulldog defense could set the tone, especially early in the season.
Four-year letterman Simon Guillory is one of the top linebackers in the
district and will be joined by junior Patrick Clay. Senior Patrick Brown
will lead the secondary at safety.

Projected finish: 5-5 Meighen SR
