Nurse Recruiter
Virginia Commonwealth University Health System
401 N 11th St.
Richmond, VA 23298

Dear Nurse Recruiter,

I write to you with the hope of securing an interview for a new graduate Registered Nurse position
within the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System beginning in the summer of 2017. I
am keenly interested in the opportunity to grow my nursing skills in a level 1, academic, medical
center like the VCU Medical Center.

As a nursing student at Shenandoah University, I have participated in a range of nursing care and
these experiences include four different medical-surgical floors at Winchester Medical Center
(WMC), the obstetric/gynecological floor at WMC, and the psychiatric unit at the Martinsburg VA
Medical Center.

During the summer of 2016 I completed an eight-week Nurse Extern program in the emergency
department of INOVA Fairfax Medical Campus, a level 1 trauma center just outside of Washington,
D.C. This experience jump started my learning, and exposed me a wide variety of diseases and
conditions, while also furthering my assessment, safety, and critical thinking skills.

Currently, I am in the process completing my senior clinical practicum in the neurological/trauma

critical care unit at WMC. During both my nurse externship and senior practicum, I have been
exposed to critically ill patients and gained a certain level of comfort in the critical care setting,
particularly with neurological, neurosurgery, trauma, and general medical patients. I have participated
in the care of numerous patients on ventilators, vasopressors, renal replacement therapy, and drips,
along with completing routine interventions and nursing care in an ICU.

The extent of my healthcare experience is outlined above and within my resume, but I also have
relevant experience in communication, leadership, problem solving, and working as part of a team
from my prior work in the construction field.

I am seeking an environment where I can expand my clinical expertise and implement the nursing
skills I have gained thus far. I am motivated to grow as a new nurse at your facility, and join in the
mission of preserving and restoring health within the Richmond community and the surrounding
region. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Kirk Brosnahan
