Here are details of the discussions that took place over the
course of the projects process
Ryan and Gabby met to discuss the feedback of our Proposal from. They
both agreed the need to expand on what was said on the form originally,
so they formulated a text that would be inserted into the next Proposal
form that is due a month later.
Ryan and Gabby met with David (Supervisor) for their first supervision
session. David discussed the feedback that was given to Ryan and Gabby
and elaborated on the comments to do with providing a greater
justification for their project to being a group project. Ryan and Gabby
both agreed with David and explained their ideas that they wrote down in
their previous meeting to get Davids opinion. Overall, David was satisfied
with their topic overall, bar a few changes that needed tweaking. Much of
these tweaks included ensuring the investigation of our topic is positive,
not negative, and ensuring that the output is progressive.
David showed them Plastic bag in the wind, explaining that the work is a
representation of spatial practices. He explained that our final output
should be something that people could watch on their phones. This will in
essence bring cyberspace and the real world together through a sort of
augmented reality feature. David suggested that they should focus on one
train station, make recordings, present visual data, take photographs,
present little stories that are transmitted to people using the station. He
recommended they use Greenwich Nation Rail station and use
announcements to transmit data.
Ryan and Gabby met with David (Supervisor) for their second supervision
session. They approached David with concerns about the research
surrounding their project. They asked him for any suggested reads and
presented him with an example of what part of the final output will look
like. David suggested that Ryan and Gabby creates a sort of poetic that
expresses a real expression of the current world. He showed them a
number of works that does just that such as the art of flaneur, Will Self
with night walks, Richard Wentworth, etc.
Ryan and Gabby met with David (Supervisor) for their third supervision
session. They wanted to clarify with David the app concept they were
making. They showed him their concept of an app walkthrough, to which
he liked it. They wanted to also clarify the contents of the magazine. They
queried about whether having imagery with associated captions is
enough. They both discussed with David the topics of The Derive,
situationism and the idea of the Flaneur. They agreed these were the main
areas we should take influence from in our final outputs.
David suggested that the app should beam poetic moments along the
journey of discovery. This was something that Ryan and Gabby had in
mind for their concept initially. David recommended more material to look
at in order for us to have a clearer understanding of our project. He
recommended Iain Sinclairs work Psychogeography, Rings of Saturn,
The beach beneath the street book, etc.
Present: Gabby
Gabby met with David (Supervisor) for the fourth supervision session. In
this session, Gabby brought along a number of queries that were initially
raised by Ryan. Many of these queries include:
Gabby also provided David with the pool of images that were collected so
far. David took a feel to them and it is felt that Gabby received a positive
reaction from David.
Ryan and Gabby met with David to mainly discuss the marked interim
reports. David explained that the idea is there but it wasnt well explained
in the reports. They didnt get onto the specifics of Ryan and Gabbys
queries but David did suggest that they change the name of their project
to Resistant Entities from Superficial Entities.
