MELINDA MAE
BY SHEL SILVERSTEIN

Have you heard of tiny Melinda Mae,

Who ate a monstrous whale?

She thought she could,

She said she would,

So she started in right at the tail.

And everyone said, 'You're much too small,'

But that didn't bother Melinda at all,

She took little bites and she shewed very slow,

Just like a little girl should...

...and eighty-nine years later she ate that whale

Because she said she would!!!

HOW NOT TO HAVE TO DRY THE DISHES

by Shel Silverstein

If you have to dry the dishes

(Such an awful, boring chore)

If you have to dry the dishes

(Stead of going to the store)

If you have to dry the dishes

And you drop one on the floor

Maybe they wont let you

Dry the dishes anymore.

MY NEIGHBORS DOG IS PURPLE

BY JACK PRELUTZKY

1. Draw a RED box around each STANZA.

2. Put a BLUE dot at the end of each LINE BREAK.

3. Circle words that RHYME in GREEN.

My neighbors dog is purple;

its eyes are large and green,

its tail is almost endless,

the longest I have seen.

My neighbors dog is quiet,

it does not bark one bit,

but when my neighbors dog is near,

I feel afraid of it.

My neighbors dog looks nasty,

it has a wicked smile

before my neighbor painted it,

it was a crocodile.

My Noisy Brother

By Bruce Lansky

My brothers such a noisy kid,

when he eats soup he slurps.

When he drinks milk he gargles.

And after meals he burps.

He cracks his knuckles when hes bored.

He whistles when he walks.

He snaps his fingers when he sings,

and when hes mad he squawks.

At night my brother snores so loud

it sounds just like a riot.

Even when he sleeps

my noisy brother isnt quiet.
