Reviewing Product
Standards and Quality
It is time the government reviews and
strengthens our countrys products
and service standards.
A cursory review of the damage
wrought by typhoon Nina shows there
are so much defects in the products
sold for public and private use.
For instance, the steel poles used
for power distribution by electric
cooperatives. Along the diversion road
in Pili, almost all of the poles erected
beside the road were either uniformly
bent at their stem.
Whether this was caused by Ninas

the domino-like fashion by which these
poles fell down, shows that these were
not made and designed with the climate
change in mind.
The concrete counterpart of the
steel poles fared no better either. They
similarly snapped in a way that revealed
what they have as materials: just wiry
iron and brittle cementing materials.
Clearly the NEA and electric
cooperatives should examine the quality
of these products considering not only
that the Philippines is identified as one
of the most vulnerable countries in the
world for natural disasters but also the
fact that electricity is a necessity in a
developing country like ours. Or better
yet, why not start thinking of laying
these distribution lines underground?
Steel roofs are another. From Albay
up to Camarines Sur, houses and
structures which use them were easily
stripped of their steel roofs like they
were the lids of sardine cans, only
much worse. They were crumpled like
paper in their thinness.
Again, their quality shows they
are not climate change-ready and
responsive. They sacrificed quality for
lesser price from which the consumers
are clearly the losers.
With climate change now a glaring
reality, reviewing product standards
and quality should be a right first step.
Or we will be eternally like Sisyphus
of Greek myth forever rebuilding our
lives each time a strong howler like
Nina comes to our shore.

take note of their SEC Registration Cer-

VAT REPORTS: The Quarterly VAT
for the last quarter of 2016 is due on

and help.
When my husband was about to be
operated on by Dr. Espiritu because
he could not move his bowel for one
week, we asked help from Sto. Nio. His
message thru Matet was to postpone
it in one day and he instructed my
husband Andy to drink 21 table spoon
of oil from the altar in the chapel, the
patintihan. It was eight oclock at night
and our daughter get oil from the altar. My
husband drank it. He moved his bowel at
ten to eleven oclock in the evening, He
was not operated on anymore.
When my daughter suffered a severe
stomach ache, we brought her to the

tests were taken like CT scan, X-ray,
etc. but the cause of the pain could
not be found by several doctors. Dr.
Sarmiento operated her, they found out
that there was infection due to ruptured
appendicitis. She suffered for thirteen

a corner of the body so that she will not
be poisoned. Her stomach was treated
and cleansed.

Act was passed by Congress,
President Duterte explained on TV
what are his administrations plan
and programs. So, we can expect that
the administration is also focusing on
development and nation-building too.
Right now, Digong Duterte is
the captain of our ship. If our ship

the Spaniards under Legazpi
and Urdaneta.
To this day the original
statue is treasured in the Augus-
tinian Church in Cebu City. It
has survived several bombings
during the Second World War.
Catholic Church of the Philip-
pines looks up the Holy Child
as an example of humility and
as a celebration of the Incarna-
tion. Many Cebuanos do not
consider the Christmas Season
over until the Feast of Santo
Nio or Fiesta Seor.
Liturgically, we seem to be
having a flashback or summary.
We celebrated the mystery of
the childhood of Jesus during
the Christmas Season, ending
with the Feast of the Epiphany.
With the Feast of the Baptism
of the Lord, we fast-tracked 30
years of his life journeying
with him in his public minis-
try. The feast of the Santo Nio
brings us back to the childhood
of Jesus.
Love for the Santo Nio is
deeply embedded in the heart
of Filipinos. Today theres the
little image of the Santo Nio
on altars in almost every Fili-
pino home and shop.
We are celebrating the Feast
of Santo Nio today. But it is
not so much the Holy Infant of
Prague that we honor, the statue

feast is really a celebration of
the mysteries of the childhood
of Jesus: his whole human life,
