Installation verification

Roxtec BG systems

Roxtec International AB [Joakim Petersson] [July 25, 2014]

After installation of Roxtec solutions for bonding and grounding, earth continuity tests
should be performed to verify a satisfying connection between the cable armor/shield
and the Roxtec frame.

Measuring method for Roxtec BG

The connection is enclosed within the Roxtec BG module and can therefore not be
measured directly at the connection. The method that we recommend is measuring
the earth continuity between one end of the cable and the frame through which the
cable runs. To get a reliable test result, the armor/shield must be unconnected in
both ends.

When a test is performed, the length and cross section of the armor/shield must be
considered. Tested with an earth continuity tester (4-pol measurement) @10ADC,
the resistance from armor to frame is typically <1mOhm except for where stainless
steel material is used and it should be <2,5mOhm.

Example:
25m Nexan AKKJ 4x95/29 cable, shield resistance: 0,64/Km => 0,64m/m
(values taken from cable supplier and @ 20 C)
0,64m x 25m = 16m
If we add 1m or 2,5m depending on the frame material, the measured value
should be between 17 and 18,5m.

Measuring method for Roxtec BG B
In most installations with Roxtec BG B modules it is possible to measure the
connection between the BG B braid and the armor/shield on the inside of the
cabinet/enclosure. If this is applicable, see the instruction illustration below.

Test should be performed with an earth continuity tester (4-pol measurement)

@10ADC. The resistance from armor/shield to the frame is typically <1mOhm except
for where stainless steel material is used and it should be <2,5mOhm.

If it is not possible to measure from the armor/shield on the inside of the cabinet, see
measuring method for Roxtec BG.
