Introduction
Social network is an internet-based (Component of Information and
communication technology) form of communication. Social media platforms
allow users to have conversations, share information with our friends and
family without any constraint. It is the place where we express our feelings
and thoughts, share our creativity and what is going in our daily lives. Also
we can learn from different people and get to know each other around the
whole world. Social network has became one of the popular sites for us and
for also business purposes, as well as for students too since it is a place
where we can learn and find solution to any problems. .Social network has
become an integral and accepted part of everyday life for many people. Thus
the importance of social networks in our life increasing every day and it is
expected that the trend will continue.

Methodology

The report is mainly based on ICT (Information of Communication

Technology) and over here I only focused on social networks like Facebook,
Twitter and so on. This report is made by conducting interview with the five
students of North South University which are my friends. The students were
asked open ended question. The questions are their own perception
about social network, what are the impact on society and then the
uses as well as misuses of social networks.

I interviewed (Shahadat, kanta, Rahat, Saif, and Dolon). And the interview
was taken in class, canteen, gallery, study hall.

Perception
By social networking we understand a virtual place where people from all
over the world or a particular community connect to each other to
communicate and share information. In social networking sites people can
communicate with each other in real time so, there is no time lag and
messages spread faster than any known media. Increasing computer
ownership and access to the Social network have changed the lives of
millions of people who get online on a daily basis at home, at school, at work
and other locations such as Internet cafes. They go online to send/receive e-
mails, chat, research for school or work, download music or images, and to
do many other activities. Also we can learn from different people and get to
know each other around the whole world .it is the place where people can
express their feelings and thoughts, share their own creativity. Social
networking sites have large applications for supporting collaborative learning
and active interaction.Social network has opened a new dimension in
field of education(A friend X of mine said this line).There are wide verities
of resources and elements of every particular subjects are available in social
media which facilities the students in their studies. Every social media have
their own purpose. For example, YouTube is a social media who embrace the
use of video as a communications media. In the other side, Instagram offer
the use of Photos (and now short videos) as a communication media.
Meanwhile when it comes to professional world and get connected to people
and friends, then LinkedIn and Facebook can be in the top of the chart. But
there are the positive perceptions of the social network on society include
the wider availability of information and the case of accessing knowledge
while the negative perceptions include the availability of illegal information
and the increased risk of identity theft.

Impact on Society

The impact of social network in society is really deep and long lasting for its
complex and dense connection with the population of world. The impact can
be devastating if it has an intention of controlling information which can be
vital to control the society. But that world be the worst scenario of impact.
Nowadays the impact we see is heavy dependence on the social networking
communities among people for executing any kinds of activities which could
be good or bad, thus it makes those virtual communities powerful enough to
exploit the people interest and take advantagesof them. Because of Social
network, Now people prefer virtual connection more than physical
face to face communication(Another friend Y of mine said this quote). It
creates a virtual personality or false or altered image of a person which
conflicts with his or her own real persona or personal image. The
dependence on social networking has its impact on not only the society but
also on the financial condition or economy of the society. The most
significant can be that even though people from all over the world are now
connected, they still are disconnected and distance seems to be getting
wider and wider, as the connection is not physical but virtual. Any false
identity of self or reality can be the reason of collapse of the society. Social
network has also turned our existence upside down. It has revolutionized
communications, to the extent that it is now our preferred medium of
everyday communication. In almost everything we do, we use the social
media. Ordering a pizza, buying a television, sharing a moment with a friend,
sending a picture over instant messaging. It is an addiction and has lots of
alluring things and objects that are sometimes designed to keep people
engaged or remain busy over internet which wastages a lot of time in no use.
As a result Social life is hugely affected by social network.

Uses of Social Network

In terms of discussing the uses of social networking system, the list will be a
long one. From daily news broadcasting, games, entertainment to making
political influence natural calamity alert and what not. Besides government
interaction with social networks, the next major users by which it is used are
business organizations. There is no organization from small to big, who does
not put advertisements on major social networks in order to attract
customers. The major organization that takes a huge advantage of a global
community like a social network is educational organization to attract
students and it is the young people that are the major users of social
networking sites. Educational organization find social network as
virtual ground as the easiest way to advertise (Another friend Z of
mine said this)on their offers and even it can be used to connect the
teachers and students regarding educational purposes. Social networking
sites have become some sort of virtual classrooms, where lectures can be
given in real time. Social network is one of the popular sites for recruitment
of candidates to various organizations that is done very easily with the help
of social sites. Looking for possible candidates have never been easier than it
is now. Even the medical institutions can advertise to reach out to people
and some people find it the only way to use for looking for help from other
people.

Misuses of social network

Anything with enormous ability to influence the society in many ways, has
also the risk of getting to be misused as the consequences are devastating.
It has atone for the social network sites. As it is common place for people all
over the world, some of them want to make some advantages out of it. First
of all a person can use it to communicate with the people with a false
identity and there is no way to find out the real identity of that person, at
least at the first time. Then the person uses information when he or she
became part of their circle to spread rumors or misinformation. The most
dangerous misuse is spreading false or altered news and creating
chaos among people in the society (My friend V said this) Manipulation
is the biggest misuse of the social networks. Another misuse is scam. To get
some money from people, some can use their false identity and false
documents, and since there is no way to make sure whether they are true or
not. One of the major misuses can be the spreading of inappropriate stuff for
underage users Political agenda can be fulfilled for bad purposes through the
social networking sites by spreading rumors or misinformation about
someone. Political a chaos can occur as a result. Social network can also be a
waste of time like some people share too many pictures and thoughts
unnecessarily as site Aside from the major misuses, one other misuse that
can be mentioned is wasting too much time for entertainment which is
epidemic among students nowadays.

Conclusion:

Now a days while the general population are growing, the enlistment on the
social networks with all the information are growing as well. Be that as it may
implies the protection of our life is getting smaller day by day and everyone
can explore our private data. People are losing their identity .However, unlike
the other common media, social network sites do not have a criteria that
how much information has to be fetched. Too much information may confuse
users. So people can get addicted on these social networking sites easily.
They should start to use all these social networking sites only for necessary
conversations and for finding information. Also they should know the
boundaries of using their accounts properly. Apart from all the benefits and
drawbacks of social networks, we can conclude that today Social network it
is a great change for correspondence in the world. The future of social
networking looks optimistic but still it has to deal with all the troubles
associated with it.
