Course Meeting Information:


February-March 2016: Class meets Mondays during Block 7 (1:55-3:20 PM)
April-May 2016: 4 hours of internship work (individual schedules TBD)

Course Objectives: This course will introduce students to the working world by
allowing them to recognize their interests, develop professional skills, and gain
experience as an intern in a professional capacity. Students will experience working in
specific fields through their internships, and carry the skills they learn through their
work and professional development workshops for the rest of their lives. The students
will also be able to present their experiences at school so that others can learn from
them as well.

Course Expectations:
Demonstrate mastery of professional skills by participating in each workshop and
successfully completing all assignments.
Demonstrate acquisition and application of professional skills through successful
completion of internship.
Demonstrate specific content knowledge gained through the internship
experience in a final presentation. This includes the ability to describe the
purpose of their organizations work and the ability to answer general questions
about the field.

Week 1: Tell Your Story Workshop

Week 2: Resume Workshop

Week 3: Cover Letters Workshop

Week 4: Interviewing and Presentations Workshop

Week 5: Problem-Solving in the Workplace Workshop


Week 6: Project Initiation and Internship Preparation Workshop

Weeks 7-16: Internship Work


Work as an intern for 4 hours/week
Submit weekly updates via Moodle

Week 16/17 (Date TBD): Internship Experience Symposium


Create posters describing internship fields and work
Answer questions about internships and explain their significance to peers,
employers, faculty, families, and friends
