Anyvalveforisolationofapartofthecoolingwatersystemshallbeenclosedinavalvepit.The
normalcompactedearthcovershallbe1200mmoverthetopofthepipeline.Theearthcover Google+
overpipe(backfill)shallbecompactedtoatleast95%ProctorcompactionIndextoprotectthe
pipefromabovegroundloadingsasperASTMD698.

2.OilyWaterSewer(OWS)
Thissystemcollectswaste,dripsandleaksfromequipmentandpipinginareasthatcontain

processequipmentinnoncorrosiveservices.Thelayoutengineershouldconsulttheprocess
engineertofullyidentifyallsuchequipmentandprovideadrainhubateachitem.

Thepipingengineershouldlocatetheoilywaterdrainhubsusingtheabovegroundpiping
studies,settingeachinvertelevationandroutingthelinewithrelevantcomponents/fittings.

Oilywatersewershallcollectoilywaste/drainfrompump,equipmentthroughfunnelpoints
andshallrunwithseparateheadersandmanholesintheunits.Theregularoilcontamination
areasshallalsobesegregatedanddischargefromtheseareasshallbecollectedincatch
basinstobejoinedinoilywatersewer.Oilywatersewershallconsistofcarbonsteelsewer,
funnelpoints,cleanouts,RCCcatchbasins,RCCmanholes,ventpipes,flamearrestoretc.

3.ContaminatedRainwaterSewer(CRWS)
Theareaswhicharecontaminatedduetofloorwashdrainsetc.insideunitboundariesshallbe
demarcated.ContaminatedareascollectedincatchbasinshallbedrainedthroughCRWS
whileuncontaminatedareas,normallyatperipheryoftheunitsshallbedrainedthroughditches
coveredwithgrating.

CRWSshallconsistofundergroundcarbonsteelsewerwithcorrosionprotection,funnelpoints,
cleanouts,RCCcatchbasins,RCCmanholes,ventpipes,flamearrestoretc.

OpenditchesofunitsshouldhaveabypasseithertotheCRWSortostormwater,drainsof
offsite.

Thissystemcollectssurfacedrainagefromareascontaininghydrocarbonbearing
equipment.Thiswatermustpassthroughatreatmentfacilitybeforebeingdischargedintoan
uncontaminatedsystemornaturalbodyofwatere.g.riverorastream.

4.ClosedBlowDown(CBD)sewer
Thissystempicksupdrainsaroundboilersandsteamdrumsandisrunasaseparatesystem
preferablytothebatterylimit.

ThesystemshallbedesignedasperP&IDandtheeffluentcollectedfromequipmentthrough
funnelpointsandundergroundpipingsystemshallbeconnectedtotheundergroundCBD
drum.

5.AmineBlowDown(ABD)sewer

Theamineblowdownsystem(ABD)shallbedesignedasperP&ID.

Theeffluentshallbecollectedfromequipmentthroughabovegroundpointsintoclosefunnels
connectedtoundergroundsystem.Themainheadershallbeconnectedtotheunderground
Aminesump/drum.

6.FireWaterSystem
Thissystemconsistsofafirehydrantnetworkaroundaprocessunitorequipment,with
branchesasrequiredforhydrantsormonitorstoprotecttheunitincaseoffire.

ThisisacloseloopsystemstartingfromFirewaterstorageandpumptothespecificlocationof
hydrantsandmonitors.Thisisalwayskeptunderapredeterminedworkingpressurelevel.

7.PotableWaterSystem
Thiswaterisusedfordrinking,emergencyeyewashesandsafetyshowerfacilities.

8.SanitarySewerSystem
Sanitarysewersystemcollectswastefromalltoiletfacilitiesprovidedinvariousplantsand
nonplantbuildingsandshallbedischargedtoWWTP(WasteWaterTreatmentPlant)

Acids,caustics,hydrocarbons,rainwaterorotherchemicalwasteshallnotbedischargedto
thissystem.

Thissystemisroutedtonormallytoaseptictank.

9.UndergroundElectricalandInstrumentducts
Inthebeginningofaproject,thedecisiontoroutethemajorelectricalandinstrumentconduits
abovegroundinthepiperackorburiedbelowgradeshallbetaken.

Incaseundergroundrouteisselected,electricalandinstrumentengineersshallbeconsulted
fortheoptimumlayoutofductsbytheplantlayoutengineer.

Whereconduitsentertheunitthroughapullboxandcablescomeabovegroundforroutingupto
theterminalpoints,thespaceshallbekeptfreeofpiping,equipmentorassociatedmaintenance
access.
