Using the video to teach a lesson: I would begin the unit on
developing a PowerPoint and adding effects, by having the students
create a three slide presentation with simple information about
themselves. After this was completed, I would then discuss the ways in
which to make the presentation more appealing to an audience. In
thinking about my own learning style, I would show the entire video
first to the students, noting the way in which all information on each
slide comes up the same and at the same time. Next, I would break
down each step in creating the animation. I would stop the video after
each step, model how to do that step on a PowerPoint I created, and
then have the students try only that step. For example, I would show
how to open the window to add custom animation and then how to
add the effect to the object that was selected on the slide. Since there
are multiple effects that can be added, I would allow the students to
experiment with the different effects on the one part of the slide that
was selected. Finally, we would continue to practice using the custom
animation window and apply various effects to each component of the
three-slide presentation.

Using this video to teach a lesson: YouTube can be a great source for
many different topics and being able to add multimedia into a
presentation is a valuable tool. To use this video in a classroom setting,
I would first discuss that there are two ways in which to accomplish this
task. After the discussion, I would play the video in entirety, allowing
the students to watch both demonstrations. Next, the lesson would
focus on the first way to embed a YouTube video. The students would
need two blank PowerPoint slides from which to embed the videos. I
would begin the video at the 35-second mark to begin the first way of
embedding the video. After the video explains the first steps by clicking
insert, then video, then online video, and finally the YouTube
search box, I would pause the video and have the students get to that
point on their own computers. Once at the search box, students would
type in a subject of their choice, perhaps about a hobby, sport, vacation
spot, etc. After getting results, I would have the students choose a video
that is of most interest to them and select that video. At the 1:21 mark,
the video shows how to insert the chosen video into the presentation. I
would make sure all students were able to insert a video and that the
video would play once inserted into the presentation. Finally, at the
1:41 mark, the video goes on to show how to insert a video from
YouTube in a different way. This method involves going to YouTube
first. After another video is chosen by the students, I would show the
remainder of the video, model how to do this method of embedding and
then allow the students the chance to complete this method on their
second presentation slide.
