Area EDUC 316 Lesson Plan EDUC 426 Lesson Plan

Instructional
Objectives/Student Students will be able to state
Outcomes whether two fractions are equivalent
or not.
Students will be able to create
equivalent fractions for a given
fraction.
Students will be able to fill in visual
examples of equivalent fractions.

Strategies Teacher Led Discussion

Independent/Group Practice
Guided Instruction
Teacher Demonstration
Differentiated Some students struggle with multiplication
Instruction facts- for those students I could provide a
multiplication chart because it is almost
impossible to learn equivalent fractions if
you dont know your multiplication facts.
There are not any students that are identified
as having an IEP, however these students
have difficulty with some of the
multiplication facts.
Timing 45 Minute Lesson:

5 Minutes- Introduce Equivalent Fractions

10 Minutes- Explicit Instruction
15 Minutes- Educational Game
10 Minutes- Independent Work
5 Minutes- Closing
Assessments Diagnostic: Ask the students if they know
what equivalent means, and then draw a
diagram to represent and then 2/4 and ask
them if they know what they represent.
(Objective 1)

Formative: Observe students to check for

understanding during the equivalent
fractions game. (Objective 2)

Summative: Have students complete the

equivalent fractions worksheet, which
includes blanks to complete the equivalent
fraction. This worksheet will be taken up
and used for my personal data. (Objectives
1, 2, 3)

Extended If a Student Finishes Early

Activities
If a student finishes early then he/she will be
asked to create 10 sets of equivalent
fractions on their own. If there is more time
then they will create a visual with circle
diagrams to represent each fraction.

If Lesson Finishes Early

If the lesson finishes early then my students

will use their cooperative learning groups to
create a poster to share their favorite set of
equivalent fractions. They will be required
to make a circle diagram to represent the
fraction, but the rest is up to them.

If Technology Fails

If technology fails then I will not be able to

use the elmo and document camera to
project my information for my lesson, so I
will just have to use the board.
