Action Plan

As I evaluated the media center at Pine Grove, none of the rubric items were basic, which I
believe is due to the media specialist at my school being the Exemplary Library Media Specialist
for 2008. She knows the standards and the expectations and therefore, maintains high standards
and expectations for her media center. I found several areas that fell in the proficient category.
The areas were 6, 12 and 15.
Number 6 deals with student achievement being routinely checked. The media specialist stated
that she can did not feel that this could be exemplary since not all teachers are willing to use her
as a resource and collaborate.
Number 12 addresses Interactive whiteboards which where are not in any classrooms, since the
county did not feel this would be a useful in the middle school setting. The school did purchase
longer pull down screens.
Number 15 deals with instruction and promoting of Galileo. To move this area from proficient to
exemplary the media specialist and myself came up with the following plan: Currently Galileo
instruction is done with the teachers at the beginning of the year and refresher courses for staff as
needed. The media specialist will conduct a class on Galileo if she is asked to do so by a teacher.
After discussing all the steps in the rubric, we decided that a class should be given to all students
to introduce research. Since Galileo is used for research in college and some at the high school
level, we believe this will be a useful tool for students to have. The media center is also going to
have a parent night at the media center. The media specialist is planning on having a presentation
on the uses of Galileo and give parents the login information for their children. The media
specialist will also give parents a quick tour of what all Galileo has to offer.
