defeat in The Hall B Blazers entered their first match with the Hall A Acropolytes with pre-game
female football finals jitters but quickly adjusted themselves. Justene Morris, a member of the UTech, JA
netball team, was placed as goal keeper while the rest of the team took on a 3-4-3
offensive formation. The Blazers were able to consistently recover the ball and
advance, which opened many opportunities for a goal. However, it wasnt until 85th
minute that striker, Cait-Amoi Goulbourne, was able to score for the Blazers, leading
them to 1-0 victory placing them in the finals.
For the past three years the female inter-dorm football finals have been between the
two fiery halls, the Garvey Flames and the Blazers. From the beginning of the
competition the Blazers seemed motivated to take on the powerhouse that is Garvey
Hall, but the Flames came ready to defend their title. Despite having the Fusion goal
keeper, Sheree OConnor, in their arsenal this time, Hall B could not stop all the
attacks from Garvey's forwards, who are also players on the Fusion football team. The
team, consisting of mostly new resident students, was visibly more inexperienced but
was able to fight back using a 4-2-3-1 defensive formation. The match ended with the
Flames celebrating their 3-0 victory over the Blazers.

Give a Hand for Charity
On December 2, 2016, resident students from the University of
Technology, JA embarked on a mission to King Street in Downtown,
Kingston to feed sixty (60) of the homeless people occupying the
street.
The project, called Give A Hand for Charity, is done every year with the
intention of not only helping people less fortunate but to promote
compassion and appreciation among resident students. This year, the
Joint Beautification and Welfare coordinator, Okiefe Brown, and the
Joint PRO/Editor, Imani Hill, decided to provide boxed lunches and
drinks to the homeless.
Upon arrival, the homeless quickly formed a line, ready to receive
their meal much to the marvel of the resident students. The students
also formed a line so they could each experience the joy of helping
someone in need. Once finished, the students began to interact with
them and learnt some of their life stories. A group was treated to an
impromptu performance by a man claiming to be an artiste and a
long lost relative of Her Majesty, the Queen of England.
When I see the smiles on the faces of the homeless people and hear
their stories it is really fulfilling and Im glad I made the sacrifice,
Tamara Mcpherson said after the event.

Tishayna McFarlane, a third year student, recalled walking along Kings Street in her first year and wanting to feed the homeless
but not having the resources to do so. She was grateful for the opportunity to fulfill that goal.
Theres people out here who dont know where theyre going to sleep, what theyre going to eat and they dont even know if
theyre going to wake up tomorrow morning, said Alicia Knight. She continued to give a suggestion saying, we are sometimes
very ungrateful so I think we should start reevaluating ourselves and start being grateful because there are persons out here
who are worse than us

with Navy inspired props and outfit. The ladies were
able to blend harmoniously and appeared almost
synchronized in their movement. Their performance
ended with a uniformed dab, sending the audience
wild with excitement. Though they were first to take
the stage, no other hall could quite measure up.
Second place was awarded to the Hall F Falcons, who
wowed the audience, blending the voices of the
all-male choir along with the dancing and
spontaneous James Brown-esque split from soloist,
Romario Francis. They performed a remix of My
Hope is built on Nothing Less then went into Rock of
Ages with accompaniment from the saxophone.

Last years champion, Garvey Hall placed third after

performing a Negro spiritual complete with props and
theatrics.
The Farquharson Hall Stalwarts, who also performed My
Hope is built on nothing less, were placed fourth while the
Hall E Eagles were placed fifth. Former champions Hall B,
placed last with a pitchy performance of a medley of
hymns.
The Hall A ladies had to settle for second place in last
years staging of the competition.
