MEL 201 MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DRAWING TUTORIAL SHEET No: 1

Q1: Study the drawing carefully and attempt the following

a) Draw the orthographic views of all the components [1-5]. Dimension all views
appropriately. All this should be drawn on A3 size sheet, each with appropriate title
block. Use appropriate scale. All components on the sheet should be properly titled.
Missing dimensions may be taken proportionally. All dimensions are in mm

Components with dimensions

The figure shows parts of a Hooks coupling (Universal joint) which is used to connect two
rotating shafts whose axes intersect.

Two similar forks [1] are connected to the ends of the shafts using keys. The coupling
consists of a center block having two arms at right angles to one another. The forks are pin-
jointed to this center block using pins [3]. The BOM suggesting suitable materials for all
components (l, 2 and 3) and the collar [4] and locking pin [5] is to be drawn.

Students should preserve this tutorial sheet, which will be modified during later practicals.
