The Getting Started of the PCS 7 library for SIRIUS soft starter uses a simple example
project to show you the basic procedures:
Basic configuration steps
Handling and monitoring different signal blocks
Parameterization
This Getting Started serves as an introduction and largely dispenses with detailed
information and background information.
Requirements
Basic knowledge of how to create a PCS 7 project. You can find information on creating a
project in the following documents:

You can execute the example project on any PC or programming device on which the
following software is installed:

Note on the firmware version
If the soft starter is operated as a DP slave following a Y link with a
firmware version <=*E03*, no DPV1 functionality is available. Firmware
version <=*E04* is required for DPV1 functionality following a Y link.

First steps for the project 2
2.1 Configuration of PC station
S7 automation station or S7-PLCSIM - Requirement

To be able to use the S7 automation station or S7-PLCSIM, you must set up a PROFIBUS
interface for the SIMATIC PC station. This can be used to compile OS tags and establish the
connection between the AS and the OS.
Note
Use of S7-PLCSIM - Requirement
If S7-PLCSIM is used for a simulation instead of the S7 CPU, the S7-PLCSIM software must
be installed.
Requirements for SIMATIC PCS 7, V6.1

SIMATIC PCS 7 V6.1 or higher must be installed and the license keys available.
PCS 7 block library for SIRIUS Soft Starter 3RW44 V6.1 +SP1 must be installed.
The PCS 7 project must have been created.
Requirements for SIMATIC PCS 7 V7.0

PCS 7 block library for SIRIUS Soft Starter 3RW44 V7.0 + SP1 must be installed.
Requirements for SIMATIC PCS 7 V7.1

PCS 7 block library for SIRIUS 3RW44 soft starter V7.0+SP2 must be installed.
First steps for the project
Procedure
Table 2- 1 Steps
Step Action
1 Select the menu command "Start > SIMATIC > SIMATIC Manager"or double-click on the relevant icon on the
desktop. The SIMATIC Manager starts.
Select the SIMATIC PC station in the "Projects" folder of the component view.
Change the name of the SIMATIC PC station to the PC name.
In the "Properties" of the PC station, click on "Computer name identical to PC station name".
2 Double-click on the object "Configuration" in the right window of the SIMATIC Manager. The HW Config opens.
3 In the Hardware Catalog, open the folder
"SIMATIC PC Station" > "CP-PROFIBUS" > "CP 5613 A2"
Drag the object "SW V6.2..." to the configuration table and drop it into Index 1.
The dialog box "Properties - PROFIBUS Interface CP 5 613 A2 (R0 / R1)" opens.
Set the address of the PROFIBUS master, e.g. 0.
Select a PROFIBUS subnet.
Click "OK".
The defaults are accepted.
Note: A WinCC application was inserted previously by the PCS 7 wizard for creating a new project.
4 Save and compile the configuration: "Station > Save and Compile".
Make sure the result contains no errors.
Step Action
5 In the SIMATIC Manager, select "Options > Set PG/PC interface".
The dialog box "Set PG/PC Interface" opens.
Setting the PG/PC interface
6 Select the option "PC internal (local)"as the "Interface Parameter Assignment Used" and click on "OK".
The PG/PC interface is set to "PC internal (local)".
7 Open HW Config again.
Click on "Download".
Select all target modules.
Click "OK".
The download starts. After the download, select "Station > Exit".
Check the configuration in the Station Configuration Editor.

Started manuals.
2.2 Configuring the device hardware
Introduction
The PCS 7 wizard has created the following components:
A SIMATIC 400 station
A SIMATIC PC station
A master data library
Now add additional hardware modules to the project from the Hardware Catalog in
HW Config.
Note
The entries for the SIRIUS soft starter 3RW44 are added to the hardware catalog of STEP 7
by the installation of Soft Starter ES or the GSD.
Procedure for configuring devices from the hardware catalog
Table 2- 2 Steps
Step Action
1 Select the SIMATIC 400 station in the component view of the SIMATIC Manager.
Select "Edit > Open Object".
HW Config opens.
2 If the hardware catalog is not visible, select the menu command "View > Catalog".
Configure all modules listed in the table "Hardware of the soft starter".
Adding the module 3RW44 DSSte 4DI/4DO 29A:
Open the "PROFIBUS DP > Switching Devices < Motor Starter > Direct Soft Starter" folder in the standard
hardware catalog.
In the folder "SIRIUS 3RW44" select the module 3RW44 DSSte 4DI/4DO 29A.
Drag & drop the module to the "DP master system".
The "Properties" dialog opens.
Enter the PROFIBUS address.
This is the same address as the address of the soft starter.
Click on the "OK" button.
The defaults are accepted.
3 Compile the hardware configuration: "Station > Save and Compile".
Set the PG/PC interface to CP 5613 A2 (PROFIBUS)
Download the configuration of the automation station with: "Download".
Procedure for device configuration with GSD file
Table 2- 3 Steps for configuring following a Y-link/redundant H station
Step Action
1 Select the SIMATIC 400 station in the component view.
Select "Edit > Open Object".
HW Config opens.
2 If the hardware catalog is not visible, select the menu command "View > Catalog".
Install the necessary GSD file for the soft starter:
Menu command "Options > Install GSD file".
Select "SIRIUS 3RW44".
Drag & drop the module to the "DP master system". The "Properties - Hardware soft starter" dialog opens.
Open the "PROFIBUS DP Additional Field Devices > Switching Devices < Motor Starter > Direct Soft Starter"
folder in the hardware catalog.
Enter the PROFIBUS address.
This is the same address as the address of the soft starter.
Click "OK".
The settings are accepted.
In the hardware catalog select the soft starter 3RW4422-*BC** V1.10 in the folder "PROFIBUS DP >
Additional Field Devices > Switching Devices > Motor Starter > Direct Soft Starter > 3RW44".
Drag & drop the soft starter 3RW4422-*BC** V1.10 to the SIRIUS 3RW44 device. The "Properties" dialog
opens.
Click "OK".
The settings are accepted.
Step Action
3 Compile the hardware configuration: "Station > Save and Compile".
Set the PG/PC interface to CP 5613 A2 (PROFIBUS)
Download the configuration of the automation station with: "PLC Download"

Creating CFC charts 3
Introduction
Adapt the standard CFCs of the "3RW44 Soft Starter PCS 7 Library". The CFC charts are
already prepared and archived as a ZIP file.
If the CFC charts are not yet available, extract the ZIP files in the SIMATIC Manager to the
master library in the "S7 Program > Charts" folder. This reduces processing time in the CFC.
Requirement
Hardware configuration is completed.
We recommend inserting the SS_DIR, SS_MEAS and SS_STAT soft starter blocks in OB 32
(1 s).
To do this, perform the following steps:
Step Action
1 Select any CFC chart and right-click to open the run sequence for the CFC chart.
2 Navigate to the OB 32 [cyclic interrupt 2] (1.0 s). Right-click to select the predecessor of the insertion
position.
3 Click OK to confirm.
The currently selected runtime group is shown with a green indicator. Each new CFC block
is inserted there.
Creating CFC charts
Procedure
Table 3- 1 Steps
Step Action
1 Open the CFC chart in the plant view of the project.
Click on the "Catalog" button. The available libraries are displayed on the left side of the chart.
Open "PCS7 SS Library Vx.x SP2 > Blocks+Templates\Templates" 1).
Select the required CFC chart, e.g. SoftStarter.
Drag & drop it to the "S7 Program > Charts" folder of the project's master data library.
2 Right-click on the template to open it.
Delete all textual interconnections of the block.
Click on parameter IN_01 of the blocks SS_DIR, SS_MEAS and SS_STAT and interconnect with the
address of the soft starter.
Click on parameter OUT_01 of the block SS_DIR and interconnect with the address of the soft starter.
3 Compile the charts using the "Generate module driver" function.

Step Action
4 Make the required interconnections of the blocks. You can find the description in:
"PCS 7 Block Library: "PCS 7 Soft Starter 3RW44 V6.1+SP2 / V7.0+SP2" or "3RW44 Soft Starter PCS 7
Library V8 Migration V8.0+SP1" > "Module drivers of soft starters" > "Driver blocks" in the "Circuit diagram:
3RW44 soft starter directly on the master system".
5 Compile the charts again using the "Generate module driver" function.
6 Download the charts.
1) "PCS7 SS Library Vx.x SP2": Vx.x stands for V7.0 or V6.1 depending on the PCS 7 version used.

Note:
If an older version of the SS_DIAG, SS_DIR, SS_MEAS and SS_STAT blocks of the PCS 7
Soft Starter library was already used in the project, this can be updated. The insertion of the
soft starter blocks opens the following dialog, in which SS_DIAG, SS_DIR, SS_MEAS and
SS_STAT can be updated.
This has to be confirmed with "Yes".
Creating CFC charts
Select Options > Block Types.
Select the SS_DIAG, SS_DIR, SS_MEAS and SS_STAT blocks offline from the block folder
of the PCS 7 Soft Starter library and import them into the chart folder using the button.
Configuration of a faceplate 4
Introduction
The CFC charts are set up and interconnected. Compile the WinCC application OS for the
relevant HMI for the blocks that have been configured in the CFC charts.
Requirements
The library and the faceplates are installed.
CFC charts have been created and downloaded to the PLC.

Step Action
1 Open the component view of the project "SIMATIC PC Station > WinCC Application > OS(1)".
Open the shortcut menu with a right click. Select "Compile".

Wizard: Compile OS
In "Wizard: Compile OS", activate the following options:

"Tags and messages"
"Picture Tree"
"Entire OS"
"With memory reset"
Then click on the buttons "Next > Compile".

3 Compiling of the OS begins. You see the following window during the process:
Compile (Entire OS with memory reset)
4 When compiling has been completed, the following information appears
Compile OS - Compilation completed
Note
If an older version of the PCS 7 Soft Starter library was already used in the project, the
following steps can be performed to update the faceplates.
1. Open the PCS 7 project in the SIMATIC Manager.
2. Open WinCC by right-clicking on the OS station.
3. WinCC Explorer opens.
4. Navigate to "OS Project Editor" and open it.
5. Confirm with OK to update the faceplates in the WinCC project.

Introduction
If you open the OS from the SIMATIC Manager and activate the OS project, you can operate
and monitor the project.
Requirements
CFC charts and the OS have been created and downloaded to the PLC.
Ensure the CPU is in RUN mode.
The SIMATIC Manager is opened and the project is displayed in the component view.
Operating and monitoring the process
Procedure
Table 5- 1 Steps
Step Action
1 Open the shortcut menu of the "OS(1)" folder by right-clicking.
Select "Open Object".
2 Select "File > Activate" in WinCC Explorer.
3 Click on "Process cell(1)" in the top-left of the overview area of the "SIMATIC PCS 7 Process Control"
operator interface.
Select "Function(1) > Position(1)" in the tree.
The automatically created block icons SS_DIR, SS_MEAS and SS_STAT are displayed.
4 Click on the block icon SS_DIR in the work area of the operator interface.
The faceplate of the soft starter is displayed in the work area of the operator interface.
All the operations enabled for the user can be executed in the faceplate of a block.
