COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will introduce students to the basic Web page design concepts and provide
practice in creating Web sites. Students will explore various applications in Web page
design through hands-on activities and experiences, which may include using Web page
development software, creating page layouts, adding images and frames, creating
elements and components, creating tables managing files, publishing to the Internet,
creating hyperlinks, organizing tasks, and using codes (markup languages). Teachers
will provide each student with real world learning opportunities and instruction related
to business, e-business, multimedia, technology and Web page occupations.

Units will be designed to teach objectives correlated to West Virginia standards. A

complete listing of these objectives can be found by visiting the West Virginia
Department of Education website at http://careertech.k12.wv.us/cte-draft-csos/.

Students are encouraged to become active members of the student organization DECA,
the national student organization for those enrolled in marketing education. DECA is
an integral component of the program and provides curricular opportunities that
enhance student achievement.

As mandated by WVDE, upper level business courses will begin implementation of

Simulated Workplace.
Simulated Workplace provides students the opportunity to master the skill sets
and attributes necessary for gainful employment.
Simulated Workplace provides an environment that answers the often heard
question, "why do I have to learn this?"
Simulated Workplace provides our students an opportunity to be accountable
for their learning, collect evidence of content mastery, and to earn recognition
for their achievements.

ASSESSMENT
Assessment in this course will be based on a wide variety of measures including daily
assignments, projects, quizzes, and exams. The approximate grading breakdown is as
follows: Daily grades (60%), projects (30%), and a semester-end comprehensive
portfolio (10%).
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Students are expected to be in class on time, BEFORE the tardy bell rings. Daily lessons will
implore a variety of teaching methods that will allow students to work in pairs and groups, but
for the most part, each student is responsible for his/her own work. Prior to the bell, students
will be instructed to return all materials to the appropriate place and to remain seated until the
bell rings to dismiss class. Cell phones are not to be used during class and iPad usage will be for
instructional purposes only as directed by the teacher.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION

Assignments are given almost daily which makes attendance very important. Students with a
pre-arranged absence should make every effort to obtain assignments before hand. If students
are absent, they are responsible for making up the assignments and/or assessments they missed
within the same number of school days they missed. It is the students responsibility to look up
the assignments they missed and to attend morning lab for the purpose of completing computer-
generated assignments or assessments. Make-up work cannot be done during the regular class
period.
