Objectives:
TSW use prepositions
and prepositional phrases.

Lesson Plan:

Introduction
(Anticipatory Set/Focus/Motivation):
TTW read, If you were a Preposition by Nancy Loewen.

Information Giving
TTW explain to the class that a preposition is a word that specifies location. Some
examples of prepositions are: near, above, before. Note that prepositions can also
indicate time. A prepositional phrase is the combination of a preposition and its
object. For example, in the sentence The dog is sitting near the tree, the
preposition is near and the prepositional phrase is near the tree.
TTW give each student a clear cup and toy. TTW demonstrate the toy being under,
above, in front of, behind, beside, and between the cup(s).

Check for Understanding

TSW use their clear cup and toy to demonstrate that the toy is under, above, in
front of, beside, and between the cup(s).

Guided Practice:
TTW divide paper into six sections, drawing lines on the folds to create area for each
picture. TTW place the words under, behind, between, over, in, and above in
separate areas on the paper. TTW then draw a picture under each word and place
sticker under, behind, between, over, in, and above pictures. TTW then write a
sentence describing each picture.

Check for Mastery

TSW write their name on given sticky note and place it on prepositional phrases
anchor chart/poster board. Students will be asked to place the sticky note:
*toward his head
*next to his face
*in his hand
*over his hand
*under his arm
*in his eye
*on his head
*between his eyes
*above his house
*inside his hair
*beside his ear
*on his shoulder
*around his arm
*outside his shirt
*on his shirt
Independent

TSW be given paper and stickers. TSW draw pictures, place stickers, and write
sentences using prepositions and prepositional phrases.

Assessment/Evaluation:

anchor chart.
TTW informally assess students by observing their work during independent
practice.
