Classroom Management Plan

Teacher: Miss McLean

Email: hmclean12@ehc.edu

Purpose
A safe, positive environment is essential for learning to take place. This is not created by
numerous strict rules or punishments that place the teacher above all students, but is created by
an engaging curriculum, clear expectations, equity, positive encouragement and language, and
consistency with rules, procedures, consequences, and positive reinforcements. I expect students
to respect and be active participants in the following plan and share responsibility of creating a
positive environment with myself and their peers.

Classroom Layout
The physical arrangement of the classroom helps to create a welcoming, functional
environment for learning. Emergency procedures and evacuation routes will be posted by the
along with a copy of the student handbook and a copy of the roster for each class period. There
will be a designated table with classroom supplies that students may use throughout the semester
as well as turn in bins and a pick-up folder. An assignment sheet will be posted for each class to
refer to, and objectives and an outline of the lesson plan for the day will be posted for students to
see. Additional resources will be placed in the room as needed on a shelf such as textbooks,
rulers, and other materials. When appropriate, student work will be posted in the classroom in a
designated space.
Students will sit in desks/tables arranged in a fashion to allow collaboration with peers,
an unobstructed view of the board, and room to move about the classroom when necessary. The
arrangement of desks may vary depending on activities such as group work. Students will
receive an assigned test desk position to move to on test days.

Rules
All school rules provided in the student handbook are to be observed and respected in the
classroom. However, additional rules are required for our specific classroom. Please review the
following rules:

1. Respect the teacher, classmates, materials, and our school

2. Follow classroom procedures
3. Come to class on time and prepared
Procedures

Students will sign out and take a pass when leaving the classroom during the class period.
Students will enter the class and read the board to see the roadmap & objectives of the
day, materials needed and check if they need to turn in any assignments. Students will
then get necessary materials then return to their desk to update their assignment sheet and
begin the warm-up on the board or provided.
Students will turn in work to the turn in bin on the side table unless otherwise instructed.
On quiz days, students will use a cover sheet provided. On test days, students will move
to their designated test location.
If a peer sitting behind or next to you is absent when papers or assignments are
distributed, you will write that students name on the papers and the assignment numbers
and leave the papers on the missing students desk.
If the teacher is moving at a fast past and a student needs more time to take notes or copy
a problem, the student will say time out and then say time in once they are ready to
move on.

Rewards & Privileges

Different rewards and privileges will be available for the class as a whole or for
individual students to earn provided if they have exceeded expectations or met a goal set in place
by the teacher. It is up to the discretion of the teacher to choose appropriate or create other
options for rewards and privileges.

10 on time homework assignments = one homework pass

Student-picked seating chart
Listening to music during class or group work
Extra Credit question added to a test

Discipline
Failing to follow classroom rules or procedure may result in consequences which remain
at the discretion of the teacher. Disciplinary actions will be decided upon by the teacher for so
that they are appropriate for the rule or procedure broken.

1. Warning
2. Revoke privileges
3. One-on-one meeting with teacher
4. Phone call home & behavioral improvement plan
5. Referral to Office
Late Work & Absence Policy
Students are expected to be in class whenever possible. If a student is absent, their work
from the class period they missed will be placed in the pickup folder or if requested by the
parent, sent home with a peer to get the work from. It will be up to the discretion of the teacher
and student to reach an agreed date to turn in make up work, which may require out of class
meetings or tutoring to catch up. It is the responsibility of the student to meet with the teacher
and come up with this plan.
If a student does not turn in an assignment on time not due to an absence, they will still
have the opportunity to turn in late work for credit. It is the responsibility of the student to keep
up with assignments that they need to turn in. For each day the assignment is late, ten points
from the starting 100 will be deducted, with the remaining score the starting point subject to
change with additional grading on content.

___________________________________________________________________________
It is at my discretion to alter the classroom management plan any time during the semester. If
changes occur, a new copy of the plan will be distributed to inform students and parents of these
changes. Should any students or parents have concerns or suggestions, please contact me at the
email address listed above. Student input and opinion is valued in my classroom and can be
incorporated in the classroom management plan if the suggestions will positively enhance our
learning environment.
