Chapter I

A. Background of the Study

University students often have allowances rather than the conventional

packed-lunches. The abundance of food outlets within the campus of

University of Santo Tomas provide university students a wide variety of

options to choose from. Coincidentally, this abundance of food outlets

creates a strong competition among them.


B. Statement of the Problem
1. What are the major factors that influence UST SHS Student?
2. How can food stalls in the vicinity of UST maximize their

location to increase sales?


C. Significance of the Study

Our study aims to identify the behavior of UST Senior High School

Students in choosing food outlets. Our findings would assist owners of

food outlets within the vicinity of UST Campus to attract more

consumers and increase sales.


D. Theoretical Framework

Motivation-need theory by Abraham Maslow attempts to identify

internal factors that motivate an individual's behavior and are based

on the premise that people are motivated by unfulfilled needs. Safety,

social, esteem are the parts of the theory that we are going to focus

on. Our study aims to identify the behavior of UST Senior High School

Students in choosing food outlets, Safety is a big factor affecting

students in choosing food outlets. it is important that the food we eat


and the water we drink is clean and safe So it is essential to choose

safe place to eat both in food and security. Students tend to choose a

place that is already well known because of its popularity it affects the

consumers to to pick that certain place. It is vital for a human to be

comfortable so thats why we gain self-esteem we can gain this

comfort through food. We can gain self-esteem through food so thats

why we comfort foods to provide us comfort when we are stressed, so

in order for us to have self-esteem

F. Scope and Limitations of the Study

Our research is focused on Senior High School students only, and does

not include other colleges in University of Santo Tomas. This also

indicates that our study is centered on late teenage years, 16-19 years

old respondents. Food outlets that we have chosen is located inside

the campus and limited to
