Task 1 Process Work

Worship is an activity associated with religion. Christians commonly partake in this

activity. Worship is a way to express gratitude and respect towards God. It might seem like a

ritual but for the Christian community it goes beyond religious acts, it is a way of life. Worship is

reflected through a persons everyday testimony. This can be accomplished through a variety of

texts and genres. The prime text used in the literate activity of Worship is the Bible. The Bible

can be read in numerous ways. It can be read in a literal account; historians usually partake in

this form of reading. The Bible is also interpreted to fit modern time circumstances. Other text

examples include lyrics, spoken word, devotionals, which I plan on explaining in further detail in

the Task 1 assignment. The creators of these texts are people who have experienced a revelation

of what God is trying to communicate with His people. Some questions arise concerning the

creation of such texts. What experiences do these writers use to make their texts emotionally

evoking? What leads to a successful worship text? How can these texts surpass cultural barriers?

The consumers of these texts are everyday Christians searching for ways to enhance their

Worship experience with God. These tools help shape other participants contribution to the

literate activity of Worship. Due to technological advances the sharing of Worship materials has

been facilitated. Now Christians from all over the globe can communicate how God is working

in their lives and share their experiences with others.

Marching band, a pleasant high school experience. Memories of hot summer days being

surrounded by a hundred of my closest friends. To many it might seem like marching band is just

a leisurely pastime, it is so much more. Marching band is a literate activity. There are multiple
texts involved, such as dot sheets. Dot sheets are the coordinates assigned to each member on the

field indicating their spot at each count. Another text is the music. There are different selections

of music in the marching band community but they all serve the same purpose. These texts are

created by the band directors themselves or, for those with a higher budget, professional drill

writers and arrangers. Students partake in this activity due to their love of music and sense of

family provided by the band members. All of this creates fun high school memories, but what

happens after marching band ends? Yes, there are options such as joining the college band or

even joining drum corps. However even those options have an age out year. How does the

literate activity of Marching Band carry out into ones future? Does the discipline of paying

attention to detail transfer to other literate activities?

The rise in a self-centered lifestyle has caused a great demand on motivational speakers.

These speakers have taken on the task of sharing Maslows self-actualization theory. Be the best

you can be is a common phrase to those involved the motivational activity. This can be found

throughout the array of motivational texts produced. Through research by analyzing texts such as

motivational books and podcasts one can gain a greater understanding of what material is being

exposed and why there is such a high demand. What is the real purpose behind motivational

texts? Do the tips and guides provided truly produce happiness or are they meant to stroke the

ego of those involved in such activity? How can there be a rise in depression and suicidal rates,

when there is a wide variety of motivational material out there?
