About This Manual
Purpose
This manual describes how to trace signaling in the FDD-LTE Base Station.

Intended Audience
This manual is intended for:
l Software debugging engineers
l Network monitoring engineers
l Maintenance engineers

What Is in This Manual


This manual contains the following chapters.

Chapter 1, Opening the Unified Data Describes the unified data tracing function and how to
Tracing Window open the Unified Data Tracing tab.

Chapter 2, Managing Tracing Tasks Describes how to manage tracing tasks (such as creating,
modifying, synchronizing, viewing, and deleting tasks).

Chapter 1
Opening the Unified Data
Tracing Window
Unified data tracing is used to collect and trace real-time data, and control non-real-time
data tasks. For example, signaling trace and call recur.

Steps
1. In the EMS client, right-click an NE agent node in the NE Tree, and then select NE
Management > Start NE Management.

Note:
After NE management is successfully started, is displayed for this NE agent node.

2. In the NE Tree, right-click the NE agent node, and then select NE Management >
System Tool. The System Tools window is displayed.
By default, the Unified Data Tracing tab is displayed in the System Tools window,
see Figure 1-1.

This procedure describes how to manage unified data tracing tasks (such as creating,
modifying, synchronizing, stopping, viewing, and deleting tasks).
This procedure uses the signaling trace as an example to describe how to manage unified
data tracing tasks.

2.1 Creating a Tracing Task


This procedure describes how to create a trace task.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE version is consistent with that of the EMS.
l The Task Management tab is opened.

Context
This procedure uses Cell Signaling as an example. You can perform other tasks in a
similar way.

Steps
1. In the left Task Overview navigation tree, select one of the following ways to create
a tracing task.
l Select LTE Trace > Signaling Trace and double-click Cell Signaling. The Cell
Signaling Trace Scope dialog box is displayed.
l Select LTE Trace > Signaling Trace, right-click Cell Signaling, and select New
Task. The Cell Signaling Trace Scope dialog box is displayed.
l Select LTE Trace > Signaling Trace > Cell Signaling. In the right Task
Management window, click on the toolbar. The Cell Signaling Trace Scope
dialog box is displayed.

2. Set the Task name parameter, select NEs and Cells,see Figure 2-1.

You can set Task type to Real-time or Non-real-time.


l When you set Task type to Real-time, real-time task data is reported to the OMC.
l When you set Task type to Non-real-time, non-real-time task data is reported to
the CDT receiver.
3. Click Next. The Cell Signaling Observation Object dialog box is displayed.
4. In the Observation Object navigation tree, select the node to be traced, see Figure
2-2.

5. Click Next. The Cell Signaling Trace Parameters dialog box is displayed.
6. Set the Start Time, End Time, Trace depth, and Parameter setting parameters as
needed.

Note:
Trace depth and parameter setting related parameters are no need to set if you create
a non-real-time task.

7. Click Finish.

2.2 Modifying a Tracing Task


This procedure describes how to modify a trace task.
You can modify only one tracing task at a time.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE version is consistent with that of the EMS.
l The Task Management tab is opened.

Context
This procedure uses Cell Signaling as an example. You can perform other tasks in a
similar way.

Steps
1. On the Task Management tab, select one of the following ways to modify a tracing
task.
l Select an Cell Signaling task, and then click . The Cell Signaling Trace
Scope dialog box is displayed.
l Right-click an Cell Signaling task, and then select Modify from the shortcut
menu. The Cell Signaling Trace Scope dialog box is displayed.
2. Modify the Task name and Task type parameters, and then reselect tracing cells as
needed.
3. Click Next. The Cell Signaling Observation Object dialog box is displayed.
4. Select the Observation Object check box.
5. Click Next. The Cell Signaling Trace Parameters dialog box is displayed.
6. Modify the Start Time, End Time, and Parameter setting parameters.
7. Click Finish.

2.3 Synchronizing a Tracing Task


This procedure describes how to synchronize a trace task.

After creating or modifying a tracing task, you must synchronize it to enable the NE to
report it.
You can concurrently synchronize multiple tracing tasks.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE version is consistent with that of the EMS.
l The Task Management tab is opened.

Steps
1. On the Task Management tab, select one of the following ways to synchronize a
tracing task.
l Select an Cell Signaling task, and then click on the toolbar.
l Right-click an Cell Signaling task, and then select Synchronize from the shortcut
menu.
2. On the Task Status tab, view task status, see Figure 2-4.

2.4 Stopping a Tracing Task


This procedure describes how to stop a trace task.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE version is consistent with that of the EMS.
l The Task Management tab is opened.

Steps
1. On the Task Management tab, select one of the following ways to stop a tracing task.
l Select an Cell Signaling task, and then click on the toolbar.
l Right-click an Cell Signaling task, and then select Stop from the shortcut menu.

2.5 Viewing a Tracing Task


This procedure describes how to view a trace task.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE version is consistent with that of the EMS.
l The Task Management tab is opened.

Steps
1. On the Task Management tab, select one of the following ways to view a tracing task.
l Select an Cell Signaling task, and then click on the toolbar. The Task Details
dialog box is displayed.
l Right-click an Cell Signaling task, and then select View from the shortcut menu.
The Task Details message box is displayed.
2. In the Task Details message box, view the detailed task information.
3. Click Close.

2.6 Deleting a Tracing Task


This procedure describes how to delete a trace task.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE version is consistent with that of the EMS.

l The Task Management tab is opened.

Steps
1. On the Task Management tab, select one of the following ways to delete a tracing
task.
l Select an Cell Signaling task, and then click on the toolbar. The Delete
Opration dialog box is displayed.
l Right-click an Cell Signaling task, and then select Delete from the shortcut menu.
The Delete Opration dialog box is displayed.

Note:

You can delete only stopped tracing tasks. For a non-stopped tracing task, the Delete
button is grey.

2. Enter the verification code as prompted, and then click OK to delete the selected task.

Chapter 3
Viewing Tracing Data
This procedure describes how to view tracing data.

Prerequisite
l The SNMP link between the NE and the EMS is connected.
l The NE data is reported to the EMS.

Steps
1. Open the Data Display tab in one of the following ways.
l On the Unified Data Tracing tab, click the Data Display tab, see Figure 3-1.
l On the Task Management tab, click on the toolbar, see Figure 3-1.

Button Name Function

Hide/Display Time Shows or hides the time window.


Window

Trace Mode Displays data report results in trace mode.


After the reported data is received in trace mode, the
current time zone and event list areas will be updated
immediately. This mode can be used when data is
being collected.

Browse Mode Displays data report results in browse mode.


All data reported from the time when the EMS starts
receiving data from the NE to the time when the
browse mode is used will be displayed. After the
reported data is received in browse mode, the current
time zone and event list areas will not be updated.
This mode can be used when all reported data is
received for further analysis.
In browse mode, the event list only displays all events
within the time window. When the time window is
dragged, the time period will be altered and the
reported data will be updated in the event list.

Stop Refresh Stops refreshing data.

Import Imports the reported data.

Export Exports the reported data.

New Event Area Creates an event filtering expression.

Trace View Sets a new trace view.


Settings

Coloring Rules Customizes the event display color.

Draw for Spectrum Draws an oscillograph based on the reported data


Scanning through spectrum scanning.

Full Screen Displays or cancels displaying the unified data tracing


page in full screen mode.

2. View reported data.

When the NE reports data to the EMS successfully, the reported data will be displayed
in the time window and event list areas of the Data Display tab.

Chapter 3 Viewing Tracing Data

l Time window: Each record is displayed as a pulse. The displayed time indicates
the time when the NE reports data. As the reported data is updated, the time
window will move as well. However, the time window will not be moved in trace
mode.
l Event list: This area displays the reported data received by the EMS. The Time
column corresponds to the pulse in the time window.
3. View the detailed information from the Event List area.
In the Event List area, click the desired record. The detailed information and original
code stream will be displayed in the Details and Original Stream areas of the Event
Area tab.
4. (Optional) Customize the displayed columns of an event list.
In the Event List area, click on the toolbar.

5. (Optional) Set the filtering conditions for reporting data.


For a description of the buttons in the Event List area, refer to Table 3-2.

Button Name Function

Add Filtering Adds an expression for filtering information in the


Expression Event List area.
After a filtering expression is added, the green
background indicates that the filtering expression
is legal while the red background indicates that the
filtering expression is illegal. If the filtering expression
is illegal, you need to delete it and reenter a correct
logical expression.
You can add only one filtering expression at a
time. To add multiple filtering expressions, you can
manually add logical operators (and: &&, or: ||)
behind an expression, and then click Add Filtering
Expression.

Apply Filtering Applies a filtering expression.


Expression

Clear Filtering Clears a filtering expression.


Expression

Auto Scroll Specifies whether to automatically scroll the latest


reported data.

Button Name Function

Auto Save Setting Saves the configured parameters automatically.


When Auto Save Setting is enabled, the system
will automatically generate a .udt file and save it
to the specified directory, if the server stores 30,000
records or reaches the time threshold.
To view the automatically-saved data from the client
in offline mode, you can import a .udt file from the
server.
By default, a .udt file is stored in the ums-clnt\r
undata\systemtool\udt\autoSave directory
of the client.

Open Save Path Opens an automatic save path.

Chapter 4
Viewing a Historical Call Flow
This procedure describes how to view a historical call flow through call recurring.
Call recurring is used to analyze a call graphically, display historical signaling files, and
displays a historical call flow by using a sequence diagram.

Prerequisite
l The .udt file is present.
l The .udt file contains standard signaling.
l The .udt file contains data related to a UE call.

Steps
Viewing a Historical Call Flow
1. On the Unified Data Tracing tab, click the Call Recur tab.

2. Click . The Open dialog box is displayed.


3. Select a locally-stored .udt file.
4. Click Open. The system automatically analyzes the call and recurs the call flow in a
sequence diagram, see Figure 4-1.

Note:
A sequence diagram only displays the UE-related signaling in a .udt file (namely, GID
is a valid value).

5. Click . The Please select the save directory dialog box is displayed.
6. Select the desired directory.

7. Click Save to store the sequence diagram in an HTML file.
