D) Selection of Water-Cement Ratio
From Table : 5 of IS : 456-2000 , For Moderate Exposure maximum water cement ratio = 0.50
Provide Water Cement Ratio= 0.45 < 0.50 , Hence , O.K
From Table : 2 of IS: 10262-2009 , Maximum Water Content = 186 litres ( For 25-50 mm slump range and for 20
mm nominal max aggregate size)
For Slump 75 mm , Water Required = 186 + 186x3/100 = 191.58 litres
Cement Content = 191.58 / 0.45 = 425.73 Kg/ m3 , say 426 Kg > 350 Kg / m3
From Table -3 , Volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm aggregate size and fine aggregate of Zone-
II & for water-cement ration 0.50 = 0.62
For decreasing Water-Cement Ratio 0.05 , Volume of Coarse Aggregate increased 1% = 0.01
Hence , Volume of Coarse aggregate = 0.62+0.01 = 0.63
G) Mix Calculations
Weight of different aggregate , cement and water in per m3 volume of concrete are as follows :

From Durability Consideration as per Table-5 of IS: 456-2000 maximum W/C = 0.50 and minimum Cement
content = 350 kg/cu. M of concrete.
Hence, the proportion of different aggregates , water and cement selected from trial mix for M-25 design mix
concrete are as follows :

Actual quantities required for the mix per bag of cement
(i) Water absorption of C.A = 0.8 % , Hence Water added = 142 x 0.8 % = 1.14 litre
