District

I am a person from rural part of Virudhunagar district, which shares same culture and
slang with Madurai District. Madurai is gateway for us, we form the Madurai sub
region of Tamil Nadu. I am in the support of Jallikattu with regulation (The original
text book way of conducting ancient Jallikattu, without malpractice).
There are Three famous Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu, those are Palamedu, Avaniapuram
and Alanganallur all these villages and Towns are in Madurai District of Tamil Nadu.
As a person from those region, I can feel the eect of ban of Jallikattu, it was the pride
of those villages. Whenever we spoke about Madurai, it always start with Jallikattu,
yes it is a traditional event or sport, which signies the bravery of the person who win
in jallikattu or the person who grown the untamed bull.
What is the meaning of taming the Bull You have to hug or catch the bull for three
jump or up to some short distance, it has nothing to do with fully taming the bull. One
of the aim of these jallikattu was to chose t man and bull.. Both will go for breeding
(!!!!). Also anyone who grow domestic animals knows, growing the animal is not just
about feeding them, they need our direct attention, our touch, they want us to poke
them (like dog), preparing bull for jallikattu or kambala gave the animal an attention,
interaction with its owner, just tying them with the knot on cattle hut alone will
mentally aect them. We owned many cow, they like to go for walk with me, they like
our touch. As per me tying the animal alone in cattle hut is biggest cruelty.
I am not going to act like, Old way of conducting Jallikattu dont have animal
cruelty, there is an element of animal cruelty, Those are
5. Five to six people try to tame the bull at the same time
So, It has an element of animal cruelty , I seen them. Half of the Bulls dont even want
to come out of Vaadi vasal (It is the place where, bulls start their journey towards the
crowds). They have to be forced to enter the crowd (Those are less trained soft bulls,
but their owners entered them into the competition)
Bulls are entered into the competition after so much of prayers in many dierent
temples / Family deity..etc.
Animal activist raised the issue in the court, Supreme court took note of it, many
years ago and placed many rules and restriction to the Jallikattu. Tamil nadu
government came up with Tamil Nadu Jallikattu (Regulation) Act, which try to
address almost most of the Animal cruelty
So, District government places many restriction, jallikattu with restriction reduced
most of the animal cruelty. But PETA was still not Happy (yes there was a video
evidence of some village Jallikattu animal torture), they went to supreme court, hired
the best lawyers in the country, spent hell lot money to get the ban on Jallikattu.
2. Bull should be healthy , doctors will check the health before participation
4. Time of the jallikattu reduced from a day long event to three hours event
6. health of the bull tamers also checked, uniforms were given to those tamers.
Sagayam IAS and Anshul Mishra IAS in their term as a collector of Madurai District
conducted Jallikattu in Madurai district with less incident of Cruelty (you cant fully
eradicate in practical terms). Due to increased urbanization and cost of growing
jallikattu bull, the number of events are keep declining, only few famous events were
conducted in full glory.
Why, is it not possible to eradicate animal cruelty in jallikattu
1. More than half of the bulls are not trained properly, so they dont even want
to go out of Vaadi Vaasal
2. Organizers are not able to control many people jumping on the bull at the
same time
5. India is the soft target for PETA/Advertisement for PETA to put their full
money and eort to ban popular sports
As a person from Madurai sub region, its hard for me to imagine our region without
Jallikattu. I Heard death of many people in jallikattu (actually, they put posters of the
death during Jallikattu, to portray their bravery) but I had not heard death of
Jallikattu Bull. Each bull participate less than three to ve minutes.
3. Allow only trained Bull into jallikattu(half of the problem will be solved with
this)
4. Make sure that people follow Tamil Nadu JalliKattu (regulation) Act 2009.
5. Do not allow same bull to participate more than two jallikattu in a year (in
that way, it will participate only for ten minutes on the eld)
PETA through back channel, occupies important position in Animal Welfare Board of
India (AWBI), Also AWBI board members occupies important position in Animal
foreign funded NGOs. AWBI is a govt of India authority, an autonomous authority
works on animal welfare. (I personally checked all the details)
1. Ms. Poorva Joshipura, CEO of PETA India, an American citizen, is also a Co-
opted member of AWBI,
Foreign funded NGOs (some has conict of interest with patented cow breeding
international rms) has strong inuence in the functioning of Indian AWBI, they
inuence its decision. They also took some decisions with vested interest, which had
an economic impact on many common man. Also there is another famous
organization like CUPA, FIAPO, and PFA (run by Menaka Gandhi). Easy way to
destroy native breed is to reduce the number of native bulls. Number of bulls are
reducing due to imported sex selection injection, also concentrated eort to making
them economically nonviable for single family to grow them.
I know people, who sold their bull due to the ban of jallikattu, most of the bulls will
be exported to Kerala for meat. I am not against AWBI, they do have stalwarts of
animal rights, but they been intruded by few NGOs with vested interest. Only after
these NGOs , lots of ban on traditional animal use been implemented. Very few AWBI
members using their power to help these NGOs. I have no proof of PETA, HSI
colliding with vested corporate interest. But I know the powerful lobbies and lobby
culture in those companies.
There is lot of misinformation spread by PETA, PFA, HSI regarding supreme court
judgement, Court was given a right of deciding on this matter, based on MoEF list of
animals banned from performing . What are all the animals are in the List of animal
banned from exhibition.
Here bull is the only domestic animal in the list, how come you have bull but no
elephant (wild animal) on the list . All bugs start here.
Initial Ban on jallikattu which was put forth by the judgement of Supreme court
Bench Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan Panicker and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose.
Judgement heavily based on MoEF , action of removing bulls from performing
animals (done my then minister jayaram ramesh, advised by AWBI). Now MoEF
should answer, how bulls (domestic animals) are added into the wild animal list
(showcase animal list ban). Why MoEF included Bulls in the category of Tigers, lions,
Monkeys (But not elephants), This rises lots of doubts.
Tamil nadu government didnt argue well the case of A Nagaraja Vs AWBI, PETA,
CUPA, HSI, PFA, FIAPO.
https://awbi.org/awbi-pdf/sc_jud...
In that Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan Panicker, given PETA man of the year Award
for banning Jallikattu . Yes PETA gave award to the judge who banned jallikattu
(That was the intensity PETA put into this case). I am not against the judge, he has
really good record, I dont know, whether he accepted their award or not. This
statement is just to show, how much importance PETA gave for Jallikattu issue. They
even gave PM Modi a Hottest Vegetarian Award.
PETA and its sister organization has direct inuence in Indian government
autonomous body AWBI. more than 70 lawyers including more than 10 senior lawyers
appeared on behalf of PETA,, AWBI and other NGOs.
for the hearing for jallikattu case, AWBI, PETA..etc Brought around 11 senior counsel,
49 Advocates on record and 19 Advocates overall 80 lawyers arguing against Jallikattu
on behalf of PETA, AWBI..etc
Last hearing of Jallikattu by Supreme Court , which refuses to declare nal draft of
Judgement for Jallikattu
http://supremecourtondia.nic.i...
Unveriable report says PETA and Other organization spent around 1.5 to 2.5 cr for
every hearing for the Jallikattu case. They used more than 10 senior Advocate in the
country.
PETA was recognized in India in the year 2000 by AWBI, MoEF and home ministry .
I am really feel sad, that supreme court didnt invole locals/village into condence
before declaring the judgement.
PETA itself says, It is not for Preserving Animal, Its aim to help the animal from
cruelty. It mean, if an animal was given to PETA, If there is no funding given for the
maintenance of that animal. PETA will euthanize them. As per them, Killing animal is
better than nding them home or feeding them. Their Aim is, its better to kill them
than preserving them. They never sacrice their resources for preservation of
animals.
Two months before, they banned Tamil nadu government native breed preservation
centre to save disappearing Tamil nadu Dog breed of Rajapalyam, Chippiparai,
Kombai and Kanni (Since Kennel Club mostly only recognize the foreign breeds, very
less number of Indian Dog breeds were reorganized by kennel International), reason
was, these center was not maintained properly. So madras high court closed the
center for the preservation of native breed by TN animal and husbandry dept. They
openly say, they are not for breeding animal. They say preservation of animal will
lead to their torture. They have no problem of disappearance of native breed of any
region. As an animal lover, I strongly believe native animal breed should be
preserved, because they evolved to withstand our environmental conditions, those
breeds are breeded for us by our forefathers, they are our human companions. Due to
this, I never had good opinion on PETA.
Since you are criticizing our students and our culture. I am eligible to ask these
question to understand your actual intentions. I just want an answer to few questions
from these NGOs. If you are part of these NGOs, please feel free to comment your
answer.
1. Why are you always directly going to supreme court with your Army of
lawyers. why not talk to a local people, who are directly involved in it. In this
case, people of Madurai District /also other districts. Activism is not about
using the law to intimidate people, it is to create awareness. In India, if you
have enough lobbies, money, army of senior advocates, you can get any
judgement.
2. PETA, HSI, you are not just voluntary organizations, you have salaried
employees , their salary is depends on the donation/funding. I just want a
white sheet from you in the following items
a. How much salary your employees (The stalwarts of animal rights) takes
home.
3. I have some respect on Blue cross, some extent PFA (They are for preserving
animals), but I have doubts about HSI, PETA. Since employees of PETA/HSI
livelihood depends on donation from some funding entity. How can i be sure,
you are not working for your interest with the excuse of animal rights.
5. How can a foreign NGO, has a dare to ask president to dismiss the elected
government of one of the largest state in India.
Our Pulikulam Bull is famous for jallikattu (Whole breeds future is in danger), it is
also called jallikattu bull
Already our native breed which can withstand the diseases of our region is in the
decline, proud of Tamil Nadu is really in the danger. We are losing many of our native
breeds, Alambadi Bull is almost disappeared . I request the students, who protesting
for jallikattu, to take a initiative to save our Tamil Nadu native breeds, Seeds, Plants,
and Trees from these hypocritical organizations.
Kangyam
Umbalachery
2. Number of Pulikulam Bull breed is reduced extensively in the last two years
3. Central and state govt is playing politics. Now BJP is in the x, without JJ , if
they allow Jallikattu with ordinance, Sasikala (sad situation) or OPS may get
the Name (They really dont want Jaya vacuum to be lled by non BJP
parties, they are targeting ADMK voting Bank). No one expected Student
protest for this issue (since Ban is in place for last two years). Ruling ADMK is
happy , becoz this will put a small timely brake on BJPs TN agenda
6. Since many states has traditional animal sports, like elephant in Kerala,
Roasters in Andhra (despite ban it is happening), Horse and Camels in
western India. Only Jallikattu been banned, So some section also feels that,
there is a conspiracy to undermine and remove Tamil culture.
8. Jallikattu was a sport in decline, last jallikattu (happened three years before)
had too many restriction that, it happened in very somber mood, due to the
cost of growing the bull ,becoz of increase in the price of fodder , number of
events were reduced a lot. It reduced to three grand big events with small
event in few places. Now Ban became a counter productive, there is a mood
to conduct in many places to showcase the tradition. Time and restriction
was anyway killing the sport..
10. All this had done on the event in which bull participate in maximum of three
to ve minutes, with no or rare case of Bull causality. Now those bulls sent to
slaughter house to save them from animal cruelty
11. Villagers are unhappy with the wordings in the judgement and PETA
propaganda, its sees them as savages . But they love their bulls.
12. TN is seeing one of the worst drought in 140 years. Our farmers are in
disarray. I wish our students will also take the cause of water bodies and
revival of traditional farming of the great state of Tamil Nadu
13. Only good thing happened is , it is getting our students to the street. I always
think, our states future is in the hands of present students. They are the only
one who can question the status quo. My hope lies only on them. TN is not
used to see college politics, student always keep away from politics and
administration. I hope it will change. Its the students of those days who were
protesting with Periyar, it is they who can create the real change. I love to see
student movement to create a new and visionary state political movement (
Chennai should be kept as a power centre of TN not Delhi). This is not
limited to Tamil nadu, this gave a required fuel for future protest across India
on saving ones cultural heritage.
14. This hypocritical judgement opened the Pandora box of suppressed ethnicity
issue in India, failure of un wanted homogenization project of central
government . Now people from coastal karnataka going to start protest for
kambala (Now all the traditional sports are looked as token for ethnicity),
Marathi people going to protest for Rekla race, Telugu people will protest for
rooster (Kodi pandalu) ght. This immature ban actually became counter
productive, it fueled the sports by creating tight bond with ethnicity. (I can
understand all the south Indian languages, so can hear happenings across
south)
15. Milk Industry is one of the few industries which is functioning in co-
operative model. Since its a big industry, there is widespread feeling among
the elite to change its functioning from co-operative to corporative. Instead
of you growing your own cow, they will ensure the policies which will make
sure, you cant aord to grow your own cow, you will be given employment to
grow cow in a corporate rms. More and more changes and cruelty will be
expected from Milk industry eco system. I dont know, is jallikattu is part of
the plan (I am not a conspiracy theorist). I only know, lot of eort been put to
corporatise the industry to give advantage of the industry from mass to few.
argument of eciency, eectiveness, protability will be used to justify these
actions. You will see many corporate funded NGOs lesson on civilization,
culture..etc etc

At present, due to the increased health campaigns and awareness, most of the
beverage companies are trying to diversity their business product line to healthy
drinks. So Milk is one of their target. Coca Cola cameup with their Milk product Yes,
Make in India is just on paper, even foundation of Indian food industry will go other
way. India will see biggest change in its milk industry , which may or may not be
advantage for our country.
Is this ban achieved, its goal of eradicating animal cruelty , Big No. It is just used as a
tokenism, by quoting a section of society as savages. It just save the bulls from animal
cruelty by sending them into slaughter houses. All these propaganda are pointed
towards weak hearted, who trying to be ignorant about harsh reality of life,
competition, food chain and eco system. Fit will survive that is the natural selection.
Student protests are the game changers. BJP is trying woo youth votes in Tamil
Nadu. It is changing their attitude. It cant risk youth vote to ll the political vacuum.I
wont be surprised by any last minute ordinance from the central government.
This happens when you target a tradition with hypocritical stand and order..
Some villagers believe the funny superstition, Jallikattu is required to get the rain,
This year Tamil nadu had 150 years record rain decit, yesterday government put an
ordinance for jallikattu, today it is raining heavy in Alanganallur (the village of
jallikattu).
Hypocrisy of PETA
PETA is in the wants of popularity and advertisement for their fund raising in western
nations. PETA ocials will take handsome salary with them, It is their livelihood, It is
helping them get more and more funding. Many east Asian countries do not entertain
these organization (from outside country). Unity of the country cant be
compromised for the fund raising of a NGO. They try for soft target like India and its
popular events (Some may argue about western milk lobby conspiracy to get rid of
Strong Indian breed to sell their breed like BT seeds, I dont have a proof, so i cant
talk about that).
When are we going to ban Equestrian game, which actually has cruelty towards
Horses, but still its played in none other than Olympics Games. Countries do win gold
medal.. do those horses are enjoying. Clip from RIO Olympics
Do they dare to ban Foie gras in France, It is a food with more of fat , just made for
taste of civilized elites. Here ducks liver is used for cooking foie-gras. Normal duck
liver is not tasty enough, so they force feed the duck such that, its liver size will be
three times bigger than normal size, virtually destroying the internal system of the
ducks.
Gordon Ramsey will cook Foie Gras and they celebrate this reality show
Can PETA ban live animal eating in Japan, Korea and China
I can go on and on without limit, I dont even want to talk about Spanish Bull sport, I
actually do not support Spanish bull sport, it is very very cruel, it involves killing the
animal on the spot..etc.
Do the World going to stop the great corporatized western chicken industry
The above things are much cruel than jallikattu, I want organisation like PETA to ght
strong against them,, but PETA can't ght against them because they are strong, so
they just limit themselves in just creating video against them , they can't put strong
ght against Japan on whale hunting but Indias is seen as a soft target for PETA,
India has highest bureaucracy, very friendly urban justice system. PETA is using our
system for their fund raising and increasing their fame and popularity. They malign
whole Tamil community, by creating warm hole out of mole, our political system
failed to save the dignity of our culture. When they try to ban elephant in trissur
pooram, full kerala political fraternity came protesting against the ban and won, but
Tamil politicians have no time for state problem, when they can't save their position,
being a slave to the master. It's curse of Tamil Nadu.
I am a animal lover, I do not accept Jallikattu with old practice, But okey and love to
conduct Jallikattu with Regulation. Instead of blanket ban, holding our 3000+ years
tradition. Do not ban, one of the oldest (oldest by some reference) tradition in the
world using hypocritical arguments.
many Urban youth, who follow USA politics, Brexit, French Election, really worried
about EU unity, cried hearing Zayn malik exit of one direction, have no freaking idea
about their countries/states rural hinterland. I am a rural Tamizhan, I know, the
minds and life of rural Madurai region of Tamil Nadu, we value our domestic
livestock, they are part of our family. I gave up eating non vegetarian food, because ,
my favorite pet cattle Bharathi was cut for the village feast . We love our animals more
than hypocritical urban elite. These so called civilized urban elite who pollute their
Air, Pollute their water, lling the planet with Plastic. Takes our share of rural water
(Bangalore Urban Elite, takes Mandyas share of Cauvery water, but highly ignorant
about tens of farmer suicides in Mandya district of Karnataka, but cried for Brexit,
shared the shock of Trump Election) but criticize us being uncivilized and arrogant.
Do you know, how many wild animals including elephants die in Your Train Tracks,
Roads which zig zag the Protected Forest.
Is it not Animal Cruelty ..?.. Bullock carts has much much more animal cruelty than
jallikattu. Here bulls lags been xed with iron shoe using nails, Ropes were tied to its
nose , Their neck tied to the cart, this is done to make sure that Bull never wanders
across, it should follow only the straight path, its eyes should only follow the road,
while traveling along vegetation, it should not try to eat plants on the way, so you
have to close the mouth. Folding the bulls tail is a starter for many bullock carts. We
owned bullock cart till 2006, that is the only vehicle (along with cycle), i traveled
extensively till the age of 19., then we were not able to aord its maintenance, so sold
everything.
Do you know, all the ashy granite Rocks and marble, which decorate your oce
space and house, taken from the mountain, which once housed thousands of birds,
plants and animals , are just destroyed for your fancy PETA oce space and their elite
houses.
My village lost its water and eco system to the granite maa, who knows, My village
rock may be decorating your house.
I just want to add this to educate my non state friends about our traditional but still
modern Village life. Those animal, we are supposed to be torturing in jallikattu, is our
bull, many people who tame them knows whom the bull belongs. we neither kill them
nor torture them.
Instead of explaining about a hypothetical Tamil village, let me tell you about my
Village near Madurai (60km). We may be from village, but we are not backward

Yes, like everyone, we do have our own problems like caste, we are working on it.
It is very dicult to understand Tamils, dont try, we are one of the most conservative
state, but we elect the atheist government, which even put footwear on Hindu deity,
we are one of the most conservative people, but we are also one of the most
progressive, TN is a cradle of political movements. we are the best hypocrites in the
world, but kind of unique too.
During ancient and british India time, tamils settled across the world, from Pacic,
caribbean, South east asia, Europe and North America, though they migrated
generations before, still they try to maintain their culture and tradition which
sometime termed barbaric by their fellow nationals, that is kind of psychic nature of
it, it is declining but in a slower rate.
Malaysian tamils some of them are in much better position, but still follow their
tradition, even after migrating to long distance . They celebrate festival, which is
mostly forgotten in Tamil nadu
Singapore with third highest per capita income in the world , their Tamil's still like
this
Reunion Islands (France), here Tamils forgot their language, but not the tradition
Tamils in Myanmar , Though they live without citizenship and voting rights, but still
follow the custom (Migrated Tamil's follow more stringent tradition than Tamil nadu
Tamils)
South African Tamils, though they lost the language, but not the custom

All these events are called Thaipusam(National Holiday in Malaysia, not even state
holiday in Tamil nadu, believe me, we changed a lot compare to some migrated
Tamil's) , celebrated for Lord Karthikeyan aka Murugan (also called Tamil God), in
Tamil Nadu it is not celebrated with vigor anymore, Ganesh Chathurthi and Diwali
overtook that position. Tamils live as a minority everywhere, but still traditions are
kept alive. So it is dicult to understand us.. so please dot try to break your head.
This is enga/our Madurai, enga/our Tradition enga State. Though I am against defying
the supreme court order, it creates lawless state/country, but many in my area feel
and say this We seldom gave anyone permission to control us by hypocritical orders.

Dont think, we are uncultured or Uncivilized.. We are Modern with traditional value.
That is the tag line of Our State of Tamil Nadu
Just a side note, I have telugu origin, we are living in TN for around 400 years, new
emerging Tamil political party call us threat to Tamil nadu, they tag us vaduga
vantheri.. lets see, how things goes?!!!. Sorry for typo and long answer.. I didnt
cover some aspects of it (I dont have any peer reviewd proof on that topic, so sorry).
