Description of the
business

2
The business I am investigating is Carlos bakery. It is
located at #55 main road chase village. It is sole trading
business. This is a business owned by one person. The
nature of the business is producing fresh baked bread and
pastries. The objective is to make a profit and create
employment for people.

Role of the entrepreneur:

An entrepreneur is a person who takes the risk of starting

the business. He combines the factors of products that is
land, labour and capital in order for production to take
3
place. The entrepreneur is the main person in the
business. He is the one that makes the goal clear in the
business

Three functions of the entrepreneur:

Planning: this is where you prepare steps to achieve
a specific goal in the business

Motivating: motivating is where you encourage and

help out one another in the business to succeed

Controlling: the controlling of the business

functioned help insure high quality of work which is an
important factor in the success of the business

Use of technology:
Ovens and camera system

Ovens: this is the main technology for producing its

product. It helps bake the products produced in your
business. It has a faster production

4
Camera system: this is for the safety of the
business. It reduces theft in the business.

Potential for growth:

Internal growth:

This is growth that takes place within a company.

Example: hiring more workers, increasing the premises
and increasing the stock of goods available.

5
External growth:

This is growth that takes place outside the business.

Example: exporting products to foreign markets and
opening another branch of the company.

Justification of location:

The location that I am investigating is at #55 main road

chase village opposite Tylers bar of Trinidad and Tobago

6
Here is a list of factors, detailed,
that had influence the choice of
this location

Three main reasons for choosing this location are:

1. Close to popular hangout spot: hence more

customers are more likely to stop at the bakery for
their fresh baked breads and pastries.

2. Sufficient Amount of space: provides good amount of

space for the costumers convenient for parking of
their cars etc.

3. Access to transport: transportation to the bakery is

easy due to it being on a main road

Selection of appropriate
labour:
The types of labour the business that I am investigating
will employ are:

7
A speciality chef

A cashier

A janitor

Position Type of labour function

To prepare
Chef Skilled sumptuous
Pastries and
bread
To calculate the
A cashier Semi-skilled cost and record
how much
products have
been sold
To ensure the
A janitor Unskilled environment is
clean and
hygienic for the
costumers

Sources of fixed and

working capital:
8
Fixed capital: these are the long term assets of a
business which are used over a long period of time and
are tied up permanent use such as buildings, motor
vehicle and loans.

Working capital: these are stock of goods cash,

bank balances and other items required for the day to
day operation of the business that are continually being
used up.

In a fixed capital the money acquired to purchase this

capital is:

Taking a loan from the bank

In a working capital the money acquired to purchase this

capital is:

9
Borrowing money from family and close friends to
finance the business.

Fixed capital is long lasting in the

business for example: machinery

Working capital is something that can

change in the business for example: raw
materials

Type of production
10
The type of production the business I am investigating is
involved in secondary and tersery production
This is where the business produced the product and sells
it.

Levels of productions
11
This business engages itself in domestic level of
production.

This is where everythingthat is produce is local. This

particular level of production that will be carried off by
the business does not involve any imports or exports from
or to foreign countries.

Quality control measures

12
Carlos bakery produces a wide variety of freshly baked
breads and pastries.

Two quality control measures that this business practice

are:

Having a health specialist to come in once a month,

this is to make sure that the machinery and building
are proper for the business.

Keeping an update of products with expiry dates, this

business will ensure that products are not expired
before used.

13
Linkages
A linkage industry is an industry which is associated or
connected to other industries in such a way that the
existence of one is dependent on the other, or it
enhances the others production process. These
industries are also referred to as spin-off industries.

The type of linkage the business I am investigating has is

forward linkage.

The benefits of linkages are that it helps create

employment and it also helps the economic growth and
development.

14
Potential for growth

Projections for the business will show as anticipated both

internally and externally. The internal growth will be
growth in the customer base, as word spreads about our
high quality, affordable, freshly baked bread and pastries
leading to returning costumers and new costumers on a
regular basis. This will require an increase in the number
of employees, more specialized work operations and
possibly the incorporation for more technology in the
business operations to meet the growing needs of the
expanding costumers base.
The potential for expansion externally will involve the
opening of branches throughout Trinidad and Tobago. This
is where people can get to the same bakery easily by
going to the location closest to them. This will be better
as for the more bakery the business have it will be able to
make more profit and will be beneficial to both the
costumers and the owner.

15
Government regulations

Carlos bakery is a wide business that is obligated to pay

taxes because the more profit we make the more taxes
we are obligated to pay due to the fact the business is
registered so we must pay taxes. We also have to govern
our business with the articles of association and the
memorandum of associations to govern the internal and
external aspects of the company.

16
Ethical issues

Ethical issues are merely guidelines or reminders of how

businesses should treat their disposals.
Ethical issues which are related to production in the
business are transactions between the organization and
the environment that leads to pollution, global warming,
increase in water toxicity and diminishing natural
resources.
This will affect the business in a positive way. It helps the
business to stay in line with how we deal with our waste.
The way in which the business disposes its waste could
cause pollution and global warming which is harmful to
our environment.
