Environment
Respect for life
Cataleya has been deeply engaged in this unit of inquiry. She has been investigating the attributes of mini beasts,
noting the differences between insects and non-insects as well as noting other special features such antennae, wings,
claws and so on. She has begun to identify the connections that mini beasts have within the environment and the role
that they play, such as bees make honey and spiders eat other insects. She has identified caring ways of interacting
with mini beasts, such as observing them without touching, avoiding stepping on them and moving them out of the
way gently. Through her discussions and observations she is beginning to deepen her understanding of the key
concepts in regards to the lines of inquiry.

Action I D M E

Cataleya has been using her observational skills throughout this unit, identifying mini beasts and their various
attributes, including antennae, wings and number of legs. She has been actively taking action to help the environment
by ensuring doors and windows are closed when the air conditioning is on and ensuring trash is placed in the bin. She
has developed her inference skills, using prior knowledge of mini beast to develop a new understanding with a new
creature.

Formulating questions
Observing
Collecting data
Recording data
Presenting research findings
Cataleyas research skills have continued to develop throughout this unit of inquiry. Her questions have been relevant
and developed from prior knowledge. She has spent a great deal of time exploring the various artifacts in the inquiry
center, gathering information about the number of legs, color and shape of the mini beasts. She has been engaged in
collecting and recording data during groups activities. Cataleya has been actively involved in discussions regarding the
collection of data, as well as how to interpret what has been found, such as sorting by number of legs, wings or no
wings, antennae or no antennae.
