III. Procedures
Begin with the PowerPoint titled Warm Up 2/28 and pull it up on the computer to the
overhead projector before class begins.
Warm Up: Part One. (5min) We are beginning an exciting new unit and will be
having a seating chart that will stay in place for the rest of the semester
Warm Up: Part Two (5min) Have students take out a sheet of paper and ask their
new partner five questions. (15min). Each pair of partners will come up to the front of
the class and introduced your partner by reading the responses you have wrote down.
(Share this example to the class: This is Melissa she is from Santa Barbara California.
She likes to go on hikes and teach her daughter new things. She is a 6th grade science
teacher. Her favorite thing about science is teaching it. She speaks a little bit of
Spanish, but is not fluent.)
PowerPoint Slide 3: Human body map (15 minutes): Have a volunteer pass out a body
map to each person. Label the parts of the human body and write three facts about the
body. For example: Eyes detect light and allow us to see. Also add three questions you
have about the human body. For example: ,,,, If you know another language please
label the part parts in both English and your language. Turn in when finished and
begin..
(10 minutes) Turn off power point and have students turn their desk into groups and
collectively use one poster paper per group to create a giant version of their human
body map. (Will finish the following day 2/29)
