Lesson Plan #1

Teacher: Zhiwei Shepard

Subject Area: Chinese Literacy Grade Level: 1st Grade
Unit Title: What would you rather be? Lesson Title:
Objectives (Write 2-5 objectives stating expected learner outcomes.):
Students will be able to ask their own question and do a class survey.
Students will be able to record other students response.
Students will be able to make sure they asked everyone.
Materials/Resources Needed:
Smart board, interactive whiteboard, projector, pencils and erasers, white papers, clip board
Anticipatory Set (List specific statements or activities you will use to focus students
on the lesson for the day.):
Task 1: The teacher will give a survey (do you like red or blue?) and collect response
from each students.
Task 2: The teacher will ask students to show what they have found out from this
survey.
Task 3: The teacher will give some questions for students to choose.
Task 4: Students (in pairs) will do a class survey according to the questions they
chose and record others response. (one student asks question, the other students
record responses)
Task 5: Students will share their survey and findings in front of students.
Objective/Purpose (For the student's benefit, explain what students will be able to
do by the end of the lesson and why these objectives are important to accomplish.):
By the end of this lesson, 85% students will be able to do a quick survey and record responses by
using tally marks etc. 15% students will be able to do it with support.
Input (What information is essential for the student to know before beginning and
how will this skill be communicated to students?)
Counting up to 20 is the minimum of doing this work. It is essential for the student
to know the basic skill to record responses.
Model (If you will be demonstrating the skill or competence, how will this be done?):
Teacher will model and students will be called to respond to my survey. By doing this, students
will be able to know what they are supposed to do when it is their turn to do the survey and
record responses.
Check for Understanding (Identify strategies to be used to determine if students
have learned the objectives.):
I will roam in the classroom to see whether students are doing what they are supposed to do and
later, students will be asked to share their work in front of students.
Guided Practice (List activities which will be used to guide student practice and
provide a time frame for completing this practice.):
The teacher will model how to do a class survey about a question and record responses.
Closure (What method of review and evaluation will be used to complete the
lesson?):
The focus of this lesson is represent and record data. Therefore, students will need to represent
and record data from their class survey.
Independent Practice (List homework/seatwork assignment to be given to students
to ensure they have mastered the skill without teacher guidance.):
Each student will be given a class name list to help them make sure everyone was asked.
