Service Management

Service management (SM) is considered a

separate module by itself but it is normally
tag along with the Plant Maintenance and
Customer Service module for the equipment
servicing for after-sales services.

SAP R/3 Service Management gives an

integrated approach to manage activities of
various service providers. The services may
be internal like providing maintenance
support to external like servicing of an
equipment at clients site.
Production Planning Module
In order for module to work, it
requires some basic data to be set
up.
The first element to consider is bill of
material that are needed to build
final product in hierarchical list.
Next Capacity planning deal with
optimum planning and utilization of
personnel and machines used in
manufacturing process.
PP submodules vary as per industry type like discrete production,
repetitive production, or production industries.
Discrete production is an industry where produce materials change
with each lot and costs are calculated as per orders and lots.
In repetitive production, the product is not changed for a long
period of time. Production takes place in total quantity and not in
the form of individual lots.
For most of the industry types, planning and execution submodules
are commonly used. Before the production execution, many steps
are performed as a part of the planning process:
Material Requirement Planning (MRP) run (More details later
in this tutorial).
Bill of material and routing master data is entered in a planned
order automatically with MRP run.
Planning quantities are maintained in the system
Organizational Levels

Client - Unit with its own data, master records and own
set of tables

Company Independent accounting unit within a client

Storage Location Separates material stocks within
a plant

Bill of Material (BOM)

Hierarchical structure of components to build a product

Work Center
A physical place or group were work activity takes place

Routing
The path taken through various work centers in the assembly of a
component or product

Cost Center
A logical area of cost behavior for labor, setup and machine time
associated with activity that can be assigned to work centers.
Material Master Data
The material master is the heart of the SAP system.
Any item maintained (bought, sold, produced, stored)
must be in the material master.
Material Master Consists of data such as:
Material ID, Material Description, Unit of Measure,
Weight, Standard Cost, Average Cost, Production Time,
Lead Time, Material Type, Inventory Level, Planning Type

Material Master has many views that can be updated by

various areas depending on their use of the data.
