Unit Title: How Can We Improve Our Productivity Name: Ohbin Kwon
Content Area: Geometry Grade Level: 9th
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s): Using Probability to Make Decisions
HSS-MD.B.6. (+) Use probabilities to make fair decisions (e.g., drawing by lots, using a random number generator).
HSS-MD.B.7 (+) Analyze decisions and strategies using probability concepts (e.g., product testing, medical testing, pulling a hockey
goalie at the end of a game).
Unit Summary:
One common question asked is how much hours of sleep are we getting and if we're getting enough, where more times than not, we're
not. Through this lesson on probability, we will be diving into this content and figuring out how this can play a role in our lives and how
it can be used to help improve our productivity in many areas. Probability is defined as the likelihood of the occurrence of an event or the
chance that some particular event will occur. We will be testing out through various scenarios on what the probability is of rolling a
certain number, or the probability of a specific event occurring. Through various scenarios and practice we will be able to use probability
to see how we can use the below data on duration of sleep and how it can relate to us and come to decisions and make strategies based on
our results. We will be partaking in this experiment within our class, and with other periods too, to see if this data we receive is accurate
to the statistical data and see on a probability what the likelihood is of us getting the recommended hours of sleep on average and what
decisions we can come to from these results.

and showing how to solve and get the

to the presentation.
Challenge Questions
During our lesson, I will pause at certain
points and assign challenge questions for
each student to work on independently. I
will assess during this time by walking
around and assisting students if they have
any questions or if they are stuck, I will try
to help steer them in the right direction. I
will provide numerous challenge questions
during lesson and even for homework too
which will be counted as extra credit.
Graphic Organizers
This will be the bar graph each student will
create online of our class and the hours of
sleep we receive, and a list of questions we
will answer on the side after the bar graph
from lesson 3. The bar graph directions can
be found in the lesson 3 tab, and this will be
done after our main lesson as the
understanding of various types of
probability and practice is needed before we
proceed on this project. This assessment
will allow me to see if the students have full
comprehension and understanding of this
content and connecting how probability can
affect our decisions in life, and how it can
be seen in the amount of sleep we get too.
