PHONE INTERVIEW

April 11, 2017 9:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m.

I am currently employed at Edible Arrangements. I work with a number of employees

from different backgrounds, one of which is connected with a child psychologist at Childrens

Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. For confidentiality reasons, I will not be disclosing her name.

I conducted a non-formal interview with both of these women via phone, to uncover

more information about job opportunities at Childrens Hospital and what it takes to get where

the child psychologist is. I found out more in two hours on the phone than I would have in four

hours doing my own research.

The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cincinnati Childrens offers a wide

range of pediatric and adolescent mental and behavioral health services. The inpatient program is

split between three locations: the College Hill Campus, Burnet Avenue Campus and the Lindner

Center of HOPE. They focus on stabilizing and caring for children and adolescents in acute crisis

situations. The average length of an inpatient stay is three to five days long. The residential

treatment program features up to thirty beds at the College Hill Campus. This program serves

children and adolescents ages 9-18, who suffer from chronic mental health problems. The

average length of stay is between 90 and 120 days. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is

a day program that helps children and adolescents better manage school anxiety, difficult

emotions, problematic behavior and mental illness. PHP is available at our Green Township and

Linder Center of HOPE locations. The average length of admission is five to seven days.

Outpatient services are available at four locations: the College Hill Campus, Burnet Avenue

Campus, Liberty Campus and Green Township.

These women also informed me that Childrens Hospital has a forensic psychology

department. The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cincinnati Children's is able to

provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for the courts in a timely fashion. The forensic

psychiatry evaluations include psychological testing when necessary. They are able to provide

appropriate psychiatric treatment referrals and disposition recommendations and our services are

offered on an outpatient basis which significantly reduces the cost. Evaluations can be

administered on location or in outpatient offices at Cincinnati Children's. I was informed of

many of their services offered, which include providing expert opinions to the courts regarding

custody, risk assessment, diagnosis and treatment recommendations which also include

medication, and assessment of sexual offenders.
