its panorama of trimester activities for all to share.

Dear Readers,

We are feeling very much enthused and optimistic, to bring forth yet another The Orient Times
the Groups yet another oering for its students- A brainchild of its patron, Chairman OGI and a
fruit of sheer encouragement, support and well wishes by the Oriental family.

Each day at an institute is a day of thriving for future, and thats what institutes are meant for - but
the colleges of Oriental take pride in walking an extra mile, so that the students can realize their
dreams. In turn, the students also toil diligently to inch closer towards their goals each day.

Be it academics, sports, high-tech projects, mind ticking ideas, creativity, entrepreneurial skills,
jaw dropping results, dance-music, social service, and record breaking numbers of job getters.
We simply have it all, yet we are striving to grow at break neck speed to provide quality learning
experience, because quality has become our brands synonym.

This trimester of January- February- March 2017, stood witness to multifarious activities-that
have been meticulously entwined in the issue of Orient Times for the readers. All in all, this
trimester, despite RGPV exams, was a growing-cum- achieving term for the students, making
them realize once again, that-

Faculty Development Program

The newly recruited sta members at OIST are subjected to an ongoing faculty development program
3- days a week, to hone their teaching skills. The sta is guided by the senior faculty members and
heads of their respective departments.
They are also given tips on language enhancement, body language and proper use of visual aids along
with right understanding of student psychology. The process helps the young faculty members to train
themselves as competent professors.

Conduction of International Conference (ICMEPS-2017)

A 2- day International Conference on Mechanical, Energy & Power


Systems ICMEPS 2017 was inaugurated at Oriental Institute of
Science and Technology, Bhopal.
This conference was held to promote research and also provided a
platform to discuss the recent trends and developments in the eld
of power electronics, power systems, machines and drives.
The august gathering was addressed by the key note speaker Dr.
Vinod K Khadikar, Professor, Masdas Institute of Science and Tech-
nology, Abudhabi. Guests of honor were Dr. Shailendra Jain, Dean
Academics, MANIT, Bhopal and Shri Pranab Pal, DGM, Crompton
Greaves Ltd, Large and Fraction Machines Division. Special guest for the day was Shri Manu Shrivatav, Princi-
pal Secretary & Commissioner, New & Renewable Energy Dept. He focused on the uses & conservation of
renewable energy.
The conference marked a huge participation from all over the country and abroad which was a remarkable
achievement for both the organizing departments, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering.

NSS Round Up

On 17 February, 2017, the BE First year students under the NSS Scheme
took initiative to design a wooden tri-toy walkers and students of 3rd
year Mechanical Branch went for distributing them to the needy children
in slum areas. The project was encouraged by management and adminis-
tration, to fabricate certain goods that can be of use to the society.
To imbibe the true colors of festival holi, students from OIST visited Old
Age Home (Aasra) on 11 March, 2017. Together they had a day full of fun
and frolic. Prizes were also won by many senior citizens, as they partici-
pated in many activities. At Oriental, we believe at inculcating values
along with education, so as the students of today become valuable
citizens of tomorrow.

Marathon for dierently able people
The students of OIST Bhopal were addressed by Ms. Poonam Shroti,
a Rashtrapati awardee, and Founder of UDDIP- an NGO, in the audito-
rium, on 21 February, 2017.She asked the students to support the
dierently able children by participating in the marathon on 5
March, 2017. This event was rst of its kind in Central India.
On 5 March, 2017, Oriental students registered and eagerly partici-
pated in it, to support the noble cause. They were awarded certi -
cates and developed a feeling of empathy for the handicapped.

SPICMACAY Dance Program


Under the SPICMACAY Chapter, a performance of Chau Dance was
held at the OGI auditorium, on 14 February, 2017. It was a spell bound
performance that was eye catching as well as enthralling. SPICMACAY
is a non political nationwide performing troupe, that propagates
Indian heritage in the world. It runs on the energy of volunteers who
come from all walks of life.
The program was graced by the benign presence of Directors, Deans,
Heads and Faculty members of the Group. Students enjoyed the
performance of dancers of International fame.

National Science Day Celebration


On the occasion of National Science Day, an Essay and Speech compe-
tition was conducted by the Litwit Club- Students Literary activity
club. This day is celebrated each year to mark the discovery of the
Raman Eect by Indian physicist, Sir Chandrasekhar Venkat Raman,
on 28 February 1928.
The topic for both the competitions was Digital India Roadmap to
transform the future of the Nation. The faculty members of English,
Basic Science Department adjudged the event. The senior students of
the club managed the entire event.

Edlink Services English and Personality Development classes


The students were charged with enthusiasm in the auditorium, when
Mr. Craig Eggleton Managing Director Ed Link Training Services Pvt.
Ltd and Mr. Kyle conducted rigorous interactive sessions, with them.
The students tried to exhibit skills of right oral and nonverbal expres-
sion when called on stage and were further corrected by the trainers.
The students were even made to think about their goals on short and
long term basis, so that they come up with a focus in life. The Institute
promotes such activities on regular basis to groom the students.

MOU signed between CIPET and OIST Bhopal

MOU has been signed between Center Institute of Plastic Engineer-


ing & Technology and Oriental Institute of Science & Technology,
Bhopal on 29 March 2017 for training students on CAD software, CNC
Machine, Plastic processing techniques and Quality Control.

Winner of International GO-Kart Championship

Oriental institute of Science and Technology, Bhopal bagged rst position and prize money of about
Rs.1,55,000 in International Go-kart Championship-2017 which was organized by Lovely Professional
University , Jalandhar, Punjab . The Institute has become an overall champion in the competition.
In this competition, around 70 teams from all over the India including teams from IITs and NITs participat-
ed and gave tough ght to each other in the event.

The team VIJYANT of OIST, Bhopal


remained unbeaten. Furthermore, the
team VIJYANT also won the Best Quality
Award, Best Business Award, Acceleration
award, Endurance Award and emerged as
overall champions.
Prateek Rai was the captain and Shivam
Dangi was the Sub- Captain of the team.
Lakshy Shrivastav, Sumit singh, Kshitij
Bachaniya, Ashish Saini, Amir Zubair,
Ketan Karki, Jitish singh, `Yogesh
Raikawar, Shubham Jain etc. are the team
members.
This year, the OIST Go Kart won rst prize
at the Local level also, at Ulitmate Go-Kart
Champianship at RPM Go-Karting. The
won cash prize of Rs. 1.35 Lakhs.
OIST, Bhopal had secured second position in year 2016. The vehicle with 98 kg weight and 135 cc engine
capacity, can achieve maximum speed of 80 km/hr. The Oriental Family congratulates its proud achievers!

Training and Placement

Placement activities swarmed Oriental Campus with the beginning of Capgemini Aptitude test which
was the rst one in the Selection Process. Later several other companies conducted their placement
activities at Oriental Campus such as Universal Hunt, Shriram Transport and Finance, Eclinicalworks,
Polycab Wires Ltd, Artech Infosystems, Rang Technologies, i Tech, Samsung R&D. The students had to
cope up with the drives, to realize their dreams. Amongst these, the biggest name was Indian Army
which the campus to conduct their UES Pre-Selection Interviews.

In the training segment, Spoken English Lessons from Edlink Services were carried out for the First year
students. The senior semester students participated in the the Barclays Youth Employability Initiative in
partnership with Global Talent Track Training and NASSCOM. This was a 6-day workshop, where the
students were engaged for rst ve days, with interpersonal skills and resume building and the last day
were subjected to a high impact workshop regarding Cloud Computing.

Oriental College of Technology is privileged and honored to
have been selected for oering training to unemployed
Indian youth under PMKVY the agship scheme of the Minis-
try of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to
enable a large number of Indian youth to take up indus-
try-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a
better livelihood. The program was inaugurated with rigor-
ous zeal among participants, faculty members and students
in gracious presence of Honble Chief Guest Shri Deepak
Joshi, Minister Technical Education & Skill Develop-
ment,Guest of honour Shri Sanjeev Singh, Director, Skill
development.

Community Development Activity under NSS

Imbued with the inspiration of Service to Mankind is Service


to God, Oriental College of Technology actively organized
various community development activities under National
Service Scheme (NSS).
Under NSS students enthusiastically distributed fruits and
clothes to needy people at Birla Temple on Feb 19, 2017.
Institution has organized an activity at Itkhedi Gram Pancha-
yat village on March 8, 2017 to promote Digital India among
students of Govt School, Itkhedi and senior citizens. Students
of institution aware them about availing bank account details
through miss call services, mobile recharge services, money
transfer by BHIM app, Booking Cab by mobile app and practi-
cal knowledge of Smart Phones.

Team VALOR & Team SPEEDDEMON participated in International
Go-Kart Championship at Lovely University, Phagawara (Punjab)
from 23rd march to 27th March 2017.

Seminar on the occasion of International Women's day

A seminar on Safety and Awareness on Cyber


Crime against Women was conducted on the occa-
sion of International Women's day to showcase the
importance of cyber -safety and raise awareness
about safe and cautious internet sur ng.
Tremendous enthusiasm was witnessed among the
students about learning safety tips and cyber secu-
rity. The seminar was graced by the presence of
Honble Chief Guest Shri Shailendra Singh Chou-
han-AIG Cyber Crime Bhopal, Professor Sandeep
Shrivastava, PRO, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Univer-
sity Bhopal and Shri Abhishek Shrivastava, Project Head, Cyber- Safe- Internet Safety Initiative (Microsoft).

First Alumni Meet

With alacrity and kudos, Oriental College of Technology hosted its rst Alumni Meet on 21st January, 2017
by IT Department. The buzzed campus witnessed alumni participants from 2006 to 2012 batch working at
esteemed positions, in various reputed organizations and some of them running their own start-ups. The
program enthusiastically started with traditional welcome of Alumni, followed by lamp lighting, formation
of Alumni Association and cultural events. Inaugurating the event, Shri Praveen Thakral, Honble Chairman,
Oriental Group of Institutes, welcomed the alumni and said that they have been a pillar of strength in
making Oriental a great place to learn. He was extremely proud to see the students of Oriental holding
signi cant position at various reputed National and International organizations. Director Dr. N.K. Agrawal
and Prof. N.K. Mittal, Director, Planning and Development gave best wishes to alumni for their success in life.

Special Session of Prebudget Discussion held

Expectations were high from this special budget especially


after demonetization. Keeping this in view, a pre budget
discussion was held at Oriental MBA among the faculty &
students in the last week of January. Intense discussions
were held on important sectors of our economy, i.e Agricul-
ture, Manufacturing, Taxation, Finance, Education, Retail,
Energy.
A thorough analysis of Union Budget 2017 and an in-depth
discussion of fundamental concepts was done in the
program.

Khel Fest Held on campus

An eclectic mix of grit, will power, talent and team spirit was
presented at the campus of Oriental College of Manage-
ment. The occasion was Oriental Khel Fest 2017 held on 28th
of January. The students of the MBA College participated
enthusiastically in Cricket, Chess, Badminton, Carom, Three
leg race, Spoon race and Slow bike race. The winners were
provided with trophies and certi cates.

Two Day Cultural and Management Carnival

Two- day cultural and Management carnival (OCMC 2K17) was


organized by Oriental college of Management on 3rd & 4th
March 2017,where graduate/post graduate students from
various colleges of Bhopal participated in an array of events at
OCMC 2K17.
Director OCM, Dr. P.K Chopra welcomed the Honorable Guests
Mr. H.K Nigam (General Manager, BHEL) at the inaugural cere-
mony and Ms. Bhakti Sharma (Sarpanch, Barkhedi village) at
Valedictory function. The cultural extravaganza began with
Ganesh Vandana dance performance.
Skits based on various social themes such as Women empowerment, respect for Martyrs, Holi spirit and
National integration were presented by students of Oriental MBA. Participants showcased their talents,
creativity, and mind tickling ideas to win competitive events.
Trophy & certi cates were given away by the Chief guest Ms. Bhakti Sharma. Chairman Oriental Group, Shri
Praveen Thakral congratulated the winners.
