Things to Remember:
-Reading Logs are due each
Monday. 180 minutes unless
otherwise stated. Each time
student read- there should
be a summary. A summary is
at least 2+ sentences that
summarizes what they read
and should make sense to
someone who hasn't read
the book. Who, what, where,
when and why.
**Please let me know if you
are interested in making a
volcano with your child for
extra credit. Ill send home
information on what we
need. Thanks!!

Structure Test Monday,
March 14. This covers reading
comprehension as well as being
able to identify what type of
structure the text is:
cause/effect, description,
chronological order,
problem/solution, and
comparison.

Language Arts:
Reading
We are still working in our unit on Text Structures. Text Structures
cover what structure an informational text is written in: chronological
order, cause/effect, description, compare/contrast, etc. We are also
looking at Text Features within an informational text. Text Features
include headings, subheadings, graphs, timelines, etc.
Our standards for the week:
-Describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison,
cause/effect, problem/problem solution) of events ideas, concepts, or
information in a text or part of a text.
We are still working on our individual Biography research, reports and
projects in class. Some students have requested to choose a book
from the public library which is fine with me as long as they can bring
it to school daily.
Math:
We took our Chapter 6 Test on Fractions Friday. This week we
will start Chapter 7- Adding/Subtracting Fractions. This will
cover using visuals to add/subtract fractions, add/subtract
fractions and mixed numbers, rename numbers and solve
multistep word problems.
Our standards for the week:
-Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining
and separating parts referring to the same whole.
-Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators.
-Understand a fraction a/b as multiple of 1/b. For example:
using a visual to understand 5/4 as the product of 5 x (1/4).
Students should fluently know all multiplication facts.
Science/Social Studies:
Science: We are learning about rocks. Specifically the
difference in mountain rock and rock used to build pyramids.
Social Studies: We are learning about Kentucky
government.
