An Interpreter Who Help to Understand the People from All Over the World
We all received different gifts by the grace of God as we see in the Bible. Some are to be
prophecy, some are to ministry, some are to be teacher, and some are to help people to
communicate each other. Among them, I would like to write about communicators, in other word
interpreters. An interpreter is a person who translates orally from one language into another or a
Our country was invaded by British in Anglo Saxon War. The country education was
influent by British Education system and Christian teaching system because of missionary. I have
been learning English from my childhood but I don't speak very well since we learned it but
never practice it. We read in class but we never spoke and we never heard people talking in
English unless in movies. For many reasons, we ought to leave our country for a better future
and by the grace of God, so many people are settling in United States and other developed
countries. But for some people who arrived in America, they never been to school and it really
heard to survive in a new culture. They dont speak and understand the language but fortunately,
graduated from college and university because when foreigners came to our country, people who
translate/interpret for them were an educated person. I didnt know that an interpreter need to
have a certificated to be an official interpreter. I knew that only after arriving in United States.
There are a lot of interpreters among my relatives and friends, especially who have been arrived
here early before other. Some are university graduates in Myanmar and some attended high
school in here. They have been tested to be interpreters and they must get certificates before they
became interpreters. Before knowing that since there are a lot of people who cannot speak
English and need help with everything in my relatives and friends I tried to help with them in
their need and sometimes they allowed everyone but sometimes only who had certificate for
interpreting.
I was thinking that being an interpreter might be easy before I had an interview with my
aunt. Sometimes people are just too much in everything they say and do. Human heart and mind
are the hardest things to understand in the world. An interpreter should try to understand people
and must understand the usage of English in different terms and conditions. They must be
patience with clients even though they are helping them. There are two common types of
interpreting we are practicing in our community. They are telephonic interpretation and face to
face interpretation. They both have uniqueness and hardiness. According to Aptitude for
Interpreting by Franz and Lui, the highly skilled interpreters exhibit greater mental flexibility,
faster cognitive processing speed and less anxiety about taking risks, supporting the assumption
that both cognitive and personality factors play a role in determining interpreting skill.
Recently, new topics in the world that are interesting and challenging includes
communication in the new media or in the professions according to Meyer. The number of real-
world problems with language and communication is unlimited in principle. Also, many of these
problems are unique and require quite different approaches. Some can be tackled successfully by
applying already existing linguistic theories and methods. For the solutions, they are researching
in many universities and applying in career lines as obvious answer is its focus on concrete,
practical problem solving. The need for reliable and valid assessments of interpreter skills has
been widely acknowledged inside and outside these professions and the (language) testing
community. Despite this agreement, the actual assessments which serve as gatekeepers for
professional translators and interpreters do not always live up to the expectations according to
Roelof van and Dina Tsagari book, Assessment Issues in Language Translation and
Interpreting. The interpreters are encouraged to take advance classes and higher education for
There are many kind of people in the world. We all have our owns uniqueness and
craziness. We all need some help in separate ways and we all can provide some help in unusual
ways. Doing a little thing we can for other is a pleasure. Interpreting for others who dont
understand the language is not an easy job but many interpreters did it. They should stay clam in
the worst situation as a statue to focus on their conversations. Life is like a ferries wheel, its
keep rotating and sometimes we are in the peak of the wheel and sometimes in the bottoms.
