FACULTY COORDINATOR FOR THE NKUS STUDENT

PHILANTHROPY CLASSES

The Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement (SHCCE) is seeking a

faculty coordinator for the 2017-2018 academic year to team with us in
operating the Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project (MSPP). As the program
moves into its 18th year, we anticipate a full slate of fall and spring classes
(about 15 per semester) across multiple disciplines.
About MSPP
MSPP is a showcase of NKUs academic community engagement. In a typical
class, students receive $2,000 to invest in nonprofits addressing needs they
identify in collaboration with our funders. Under NKUs model, student
philanthropy is incorporated in ways that enhance learning outcomes; that is,
it is an integrated component of each class and not simply an add on
without direct academic benefit.
About this position
The faculty coordinator is the lead point of contact for all participating MSPP
faculty, and a key member of the SHCCE team in managing MSPP. This
position is part-time, with the opportunity for release time for one course
(see compensation section).
Primary duties
Meeting one-on-one with faculty new to MSPP to discuss program
parameters.
Organizing and delivering a pre-semester meeting with all participating
faculty to articulate the program needs, including schedules, class
structure (e.g., service learning pedagogy), and the reporting
requirements.
Organizing and delivering a mid-semester meeting with all
participating faculty to check in, share stories, offer support, and
articulate administrative requirements (e.g., what forms are required to
process payments; programming plans for the celebration; reports to
funders).
Overseeing pre-tests and post-tests (including IRB approval), and
managing their execution.
Being available to mentor/guide participating faculty during the
semester.
Routinely (at least once monthly; more if needed) meet with the SHCCE
executive director to coordinate programmatic matters and address
any needs, issues, or concerns.
Encourage all faculty to publish and present on MSPP, and to mentor
on both.
Maintain a faculty resources folder on the SHCCE One Drive.
Secondary duties
Assist as needed with administrative tasks (e.g., executing the Fall and
Spring celebrations).
Help in recruiting faculty to teach MSSP courses.
Be available to meet with funders new and existing.
Assist in hiring and co-managing the SHCCE service learning intern
(wholl have MSPP duties).
Assist with website updates; media/PR about MSPP; faculty
workshops/info sessions about MSPP; preparation the annual report
and any required reporting to funders.
Work with SHCCE staff to construct a P-12 pathway to NKU and MSPP.
Advisory role in developing the program budget.
Desired qualifications
This position is open to full-time NKU faculty. Other qualification: experience
teaching a MSPP course; familiarity with service learning pedagogy; some
summer availability; have published or presented on community
engagement; have an eye toward creative application of student
philanthropy pedagogy.
Compensation
$3,000 per semester, which can be paid as an overload stipend or as a
course buyout.
