THE PLAN
Have the Day in the Life Kenya link pulled up prior to calling students to the carpet.

Anticipatory Set: *
Who can raise their hand and tell me what we talked about yesterday?
Allow students to answer, making sure to discuss what culture is and some of the examples of
culture from the articles from the previous day.

Instruction: *
Today we are going to learn more about culture. We are going to learn more about the lives of
children from other countries.
Show Kenya link. Click through each part of the day. Have students discuss what is the same
about their day and what might be different from their days.
Now you guys get to explore other kids lives from other countries with your tables. You will
read through their days and think about how that compares to the person we researched from
Kenya.
Assign tables other countries
Table 1 - Egypt
Table 2 - Madagascar
Table 3 - Japan
Table 4 - Costa Rica
Table 5 - Switzerland
Allow students 10 minutes to explore with their tables.
Now you guys are going to fill out a compare and contrast t-chart with the country you just
researched and Kenya. You will have 3 differences and 3 similarities for each part of the chart.
Show example chart on the board

Have students share out interesting facts they learned about the children from the country they
researched.
