OM Techniques for ShidhulaiSwanirvarSangsthato Improve itsOperational Performance
ShidhulaiSwanirvarSangstha (SSS) is a name of revolution that has taken place in the process
floating architecture that allows techno-enabled, less costly and modernized version of floating
school to serve education of any waterlogged disadvantaged community.
Operations Performance Analysis:As SSS is growing big and has 111 floating vessels, the
general council should maintain a well-organized Information Technology to monition day to day
operational performance.
Process Selection&Mapping:Like floating schools in Philippines, SSS should introduce some
motivational strategy (e.g. teaching fishing business) to attract more people to send their children
to get education from SSS.Still SSS has scope to develop its process to get more revenue from
supplementary services. It can sell hybrid seed and floating technology for organic production.
Supply Chain Management: Supply Chain Management of SSS manages the flow of
education, awareness and services in order to deliver maximum value to the consumer while
minimizing the costs of the flow through floating schooling and solar panel.
Inventory Management:Though SSS is getting free books from government up to class 4, it can
pass a bill from Education ministry to get more books upto class 10. It can also take funds from
CSR funds of influential companies like Unilever, BAT, RFL and so on. From Bangladesh Power
Development Board (BPDP), it can easily get solar energy support. For IT infrastructure, it can
take donation from Computer Source,
Forecasting: SSShas plan to add100 more boats in the next five years to reach an additional
100,000 people in the rural areas of Bangladesh. Floating school becomes a trend for not only for
Bangladesh but also foreign countries.
Project Management and Scheduling: This simple model of floating school of SSS canactually
generate vast impact in the particular society and also can be replicated in the similar
situationwhere the waterway becomes the only way of transportation and rising sea level and
rapid flooding crisisare inevitable. But SSS can take the project of Makoko Floating School in
Nigeria to makethe pyramid-shaped, Three-storied architecture thatare locally made from wood
and bamboo that floatedon 256 recycled blue plastic barrels to accommodate 100 students for
providing primary education. It can spread more education at a time.
Waiting Lines Analysis: SSS has less waiting to provide line for underprivileged children. It has
two shifts to provide education and other services. It can increase more shifts to cover more
students.
Quality Management:SSS still has to many problems to sustain this quality level. It can use
Fish Bone diagram, House of quality, control chart and Pareto chart. As BRAC has only floating
school in Bangladesh, it can also adapt some quality control operation from Bangladesh.
Capacity Management: SSS has created jobfor almost 200 staff members including locally
recruited 61 teachers and 48 boat operators along with 300 volunteers. It has a strong capacity
management.
