Title of Group: Emotion Color Wheel

and establish rapport.

a. Instruct participants to label each section with an emotion
b. Fill in each section with a corresponding color or picture that matches his/her idea of what the
emotion means to him/her
3. When they are finished, have him/her explain what made them choose the color or design
4. Ask the participant to share where in their life they have experienced that emotion/feeling
5. Ask the participant to choose a emotion that relates to how he/she is feeling today

Supplies Needed:

1. Paper with pre-drawn sections

2. Markers, colored pencils, or crayons

Post Group Write up:

Number of Participants in Attendance: 5 adolescents

Outcome: What worked, what didnt and why? All of the participants were able to complete their color wheel
with corresponding emotions that related to them the most. Some participants used colors to display their emotions,
while others chose to draw how each emotion meant to them.

Suggestions for Improvement: If I were do this activity differently, I would have the participants create their own
sections instead of 8 even sections.

As a nurse engaged in patient education what was learned? I learned that each individual has their own emotions
which could be totally different than what their mood is displaying. A girl participant seemed to be very friendly and
smiley around the unit, but her main emotions she chose were irritation, sadness, hopeless which she stated that they
were how she felt majority of the time. I learned that its important to frequently check each individuals feelings
during the day to see how they are doing and to maintain a safe environment.
