Standard Seven
Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/ carers and the community

Meeting professional ethics and responsibilities is the responsibility of every teacher, for me, this involves acting in a professional
manner while in the school grounds, towards both students and colleagues as well as dressing in a professional manner. (Standard
7.1). Acting in a professional manner towards all students and teachers within the classroom community is a standard that all
professional teachers must meet and I aim to meet every time I visit a school for any reason. (Standard 7.1). Marking the roll and
taking accountability for students within my care is one of the most important responsibilities I have had while on my professional
experience and I ensure that I treat this responsibility in a professional manner. (Standard 7.2). Whether students are in a
classroom setting or in a sports class, it is important that teachers know where their students are at all times in case of an
emergency. (Standard 7.2). Engaging with the parents and carers of students within my classes is an important way that parents
and I can work together to achieve a mutual goal for their student. Inviting parents and carers into the classroom to help wherever
possible is one way that I can help to create cohesion between home and school environments. (Standard 7.3). Engaging with the
community that the school is situated in is an important way to involve the community within the school, this could include a school
fair, book fair or bringing in community professionals into the classroom to help with a lesson, for example, bringing in an Aboriginal
elder to tell students dreamtime stories or to create Aboriginal art work that is authentic. (Standard 7.4).
