Creative Writing-Day 2:

English 11th Grade:

1.1 Integration of Learning Outcomes
Student will be able to give critical feedback to other students writing and
offer support on how to better improve it. Students will also be able to take
a persons detailed writing, and quickly find the picture the student was
trying to describe.
1.2 Standards
To access the PA standards go to: http://www.pdesas.org/Standard/Views
Standard - CC.1.3.11-12.E
Evaluate the structure of texts including how specific sentences,
paragraphs and larger portions of the texts relate to each other and the
whole.

Standard - CC.1.4.9-10.C
Develop and analyze the topic with relevant, well-chosen, and
sufficient facts, extended definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other
information and examples appropriate to the audiences knowledge of the
topic; include graphics and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.
1.3 Anticipatory Set
Students have swapped descriptive papers with one another and are asked
to use that to find a picture the author was trying to describe. With this, the
students will discuss their struggles in finding which picture the other was
describing and how to better improve their writing.
1.4 Procedures
1. Take another students work and analyze it
2. Figure out what you dont understand fully, or things that
might need more detail and tell the author group. Offer suggestions about
how to clear up these specifications and make something more detailed.
3. Go through the past 20 posts on the others Instagram, or
through 10 pictures they physically brought in and try to find what image the
student as attempting to describe.
4. Discuss what you found difficult with this project, and give
feedback on what the author could have done better.
5. Meet back as a class and discuss strengths/weaknesses with
this
6. Hand in hard copy of papers to teacher to be graded on the
next class day, after final improvements.
1.5 Differentiation
All students will be partnering with another to give critical feedback to one
anothers writing. Students are not required to use social media, but it is
encouraged. If a student decided to bring in pictures to describe, or find
online ones, they must provide the other student with ones they looked at.
This project can be easily altered from high tech to low tech.
1.6 Closure
With this, students will be able to have their work read, as well as read
others, to better understand how to capture detail and better describe
things. Students will learn how to give critical feedback, and understand that
what might be obvious to them might not be obvious to others.
1.7 Formative/Summative Assessment of Students (P-12)
Show your assessment measure(s) and offer reasons for using them.
1.8 Materials/Equipment
iPads, Laptops, Social Media apps or physical pictures.
1.9 Technology

We can also use the laptops to find other generalized pictures a student
might have saved to describe.
