Creekside Middle School contains grades 6-8 and is located in

Carmel, Indiana. There are 1,246 students in total. Twenty-four


nationalities are represented by the students at Creekside. 69.3% of
the student population is White, 17.7% is Asian, 7.1% is multiracial,
3.9% is African American, 1.7% is Hispanic, three students are
Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and one student is American Indian.
The total percentage of students who receive free or reduced price
lunch is 3.4%. The total number of students in the school with IEPs is
105 or .84%. The total number of students with 504s is 50 or .4%. The
population of the surrounding community and city is continuously
growing due to a large supply of professional job opportunities and
amenities including parks, trails, and the Arts & Design District. The
median household income of Carmel is $107,916.
The 6th grade has 45-minute electives that they go to everyday,
while the rest of their classes are on the block schedule, whereas
grades 7 and 8 follow a regular block schedule. In the block schedule
the classes are 94 minutes long and they visit each class every other
day. The first block for my cooperating teacher is a preparation block.
The second block consists of two 6th grade classes. The first class is
made up of half of the 6th grade Cadet Band and contains 61 students.
This class has 20 girls and 41 boys and there are four students with
IEPs and three students with 504s. The second class is the other half
of the 6th grade Cadet band and contains 68 students. There are 23
girls and 45 boys. This class has four students with IEPs and two with
504s. One boy also has a fulltime aide with him. Both of these 6th
grade classes meet everyday.
The third block on a Red Day is Concert Band. The band contains
54 students. Of these students 11 are female and 43 are male. Two
students have IEPs and two have 504s. The fourth block on a Red Day
is Wind Symphony. Of the 60 students 27 are female and 33 are male.
There is only one student with an IEP in this class and no one has a
504. The Symphonic Band is split into two blocks, but they both meet
on a Blue Day. Symphonic Band 7 meets during the third block, while
Symphonic Band 8 meets during the fourth block. Symphonic 7 has 54
students. 25 of the students are female and 29 are male. None of the
students have an IEP or 504. Symphonic 8 has 28 students. 9 are
female and 19 are male. Three students have 504s in this class.
Students can also choose to join Pep Band if they have played their
instrument for at least one year. Pep band meets after school during
the spring semester. This group has 61 students. 19 students are
female and 42 are male. Every class is ethnically and culturally
diverse. Depending on the class 1/3-2/3 is not White.
